DPF Detected Absent🤔

This 5008 came to me with the engine light on. It had a few codes stored but the two that stood out to me were the DPF related ones. I done an assesment of the system and found it wasn't operating as it should.

I had to do some intrusive testing then to find out why. So i took the exhaust off underneath to look inside and found the DPF had broken up and some was missing.

When i removed the DPF it was plain to see somebody had purposely smashed the center out of it. Possibly trying to fix a problem but in reality just creating a more expensive one.

To keep costs down i sourced a used DPF and fitted it to the vehicle. I then fixed the original problem that led the previous garage down the route of smashing it out. Now the car is functioning correctly and meets all the required emission standards

With NCT centers still not opperating it has been more than 12 months since some vehicles have been up on a lift for an inspection.

Ive noticed alot of cars latley with dangerous problems in the brakes or suspension. Its important to take your car to your mechanic if you suspect something is not 100%.

Its usually cheaper to catch a problem in its early stages and its definitely safer. Ive left some videos in the comments of cars ive seen over the past few weeks its actually scary how bad some of them can get.

DPF issues

This A6 came to me with warning lights on the dash and faults stored for the DPF. It was an ongoing problem and had done the rounds in a couple of other garages where they had carried out regenerations in an attempt to fix it.

When the problem persisted he was advised to either replace the DPF or remove it completely.

The fact is it's ilegal to remove your DPF but more importantly it raises health and safety concerns. A DPF is a crucial part in the exhaust after treatment process and without it the air we breathe is being polluted.

I carried out an assesment and found a mechanical fault with the turbo and EGR system to be causing the issue. The DPF itself was in good condition and didn't need to be removed or replaced.

I fixed the issue and used a 3 step process to clean the DPF while still fitted to the car for good measure. The car is now running as it was intended by the manufacture and the customer has no more worries😁

Its not all fancy cars😁

This Transit arrived on a tow truck after being in another garage for a non start problem. They had fitted four new injectors and a high pressure pump but it still wouldn't start.

I tried to start it and noticed it didn't sound right while cranking, so I done a non intrusive compression test to find it definitely had a compression problem.

I then noticed the coolant was empty so i moved my tests there suspecting a head gasket failure. I used a really low tech method to prove the problem and provide a good visual to the customer (video in the comments)

This customer could have saved a fortune by paying my hour diagnostic fee first and not wasting money on unecessary parts and labour. I didnt even ask how much the injectors and HP pump cost💰💰

Another case where TEST DONT GUESS could have saved a customer some money

This Caddy was brought to me today with a battery drain issue. The problem occured when the van was left sitting for a couple of days, then it wouldnt start because the battery was discharged.

Somebody had looked at it and recomended a new battery so the customer came to me when they realised they still had the same problem.

I done some tests and proved a parasitic drain was present. Futher testing led me to the circuit causing the issue then with abit of research and gathering of wiring diagrams from the VW portal i was able to pinpoint the fault and get the customer back on the road with a guarantee the problem was solved.

Electrical problems come in many differant forms. This is a common sight in my day to day.

This car was in a bodyshop getting minor repairs done. Just when they were ready to give it back a whole load of problems started to occur. It had warning lights on the dash and a number of other intermittent faults that were totaly unrelated to the areas of the car they worked on.

They couldn't give it back to the customer in that state so gave me a call. I am familiar with these kinds of faults, I was able to pin point the cause of the problem very quickly. I had all the equipment with me to do the repair so had a happy bodyshop owner with a car ready to be returned to the customer.

This 2016 320d came to me recently. The owner was worried about failing the NCT because the indicator and electric mirror wasnt working. It had been in another garage where they got the indicator to work but not the mirror and now none of the electric windows worked.

They done nothing wrong but just weren't set up to tackle electrical problems successfully. The owner bought a used window switch unit in the hope it would fix it and then came to me when it didnt.

I used the tools and resources i have to solve the problem. I got a huge list of fault codes which gave me some direction then gathered the relevent information and appropriate wiring diagrams from BMWs online server.

I was able to use the information and diagrams along with various test equipment to quickly narrow the fault down to an unusual short in the wiring for the mirror. With a quick temporary repair i had the windows opperating again and a happy customer back on the road and ready for NCT.

If the customer came to me first they would of saved the money that was wasted on the used switch unit and the labour cost for the other garage to try fix it.

TEST DONT GUESS is a motto i like to go by😁

A nice Transit Custom I had in for servicing this week. The Timing Belt was due this time around. My suppliers were able to source the parts directly from Ford. I like to use OE parts as much as possible because it eliminates any problems and I can guarantee the quality to the customer. This ensures both myself and the customer are satisfied the job is done correctly.
