Galway’s Pay & Display machines struggling with card payments really showed how fragile on‑street parking can be...🅿️

One hiccup and suddenly visitors aren’t sure how to pay, start worrying about fines, or cut their visit short, all because the system people rely on wasn’t there when they needed it.

Meanwhile, the shift towards digital parking has been huge. In 2025, over 100,000 motorists pre‑booked parking on the Q‑Park website, which says a lot about how quickly drivers are moving toward options that feel predictable and stress‑free.

You arrive, ANPR recognises the plate, the barrier lifts, and the whole thing just works. No tickets to find, no queues, no hoping the machine feels cooperative that day.

It’s a small change in behaviour, but it’s made a big difference to how smoothly people move around Galway ☘️
