Logistics may be more demanding than usual, however our commitment to our clients remains unchanged.

Bentley S2 gearbox rebuild underway.

These are seriously heavy, solid cast units — built in an era when engineering was driven by longevity rather than cost. To handle and assemble it correctly, we’ve produced a dedicated factory-style fixture in-house.
The gearbox is based on the early 4-speed Hydramatic, originally developed by General Motors in the 1940s. Rolls-Royce Motors adopted the concept, but extensively refined it to achieve their own standards of smoothness and silence.
As part of the rebuild, the unit is fully stripped, cleaned and inspected. All clutches, seals and wear components are replaced, with clearances checked and adjusted to ensure correct operation.
Once completed, the gearbox will deliver the smooth, effortless drive these cars are known for.

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II — service in progress.
A thorough drivetrain service — addressing both standard and often neglected areas.
• Gearbox pan removed, cleaned and inspected
• Gearbox filter replaced
• Differential oil renewed
• Detroit-type rear hub couplings — drained and refilled
A frequently overlooked detail: these couplings require proper lubrication. In many cases, they are found running dry — resulting in premature wear and vibration.
At Celtic Classic Motors, attention is given not only to what is visible, but to what truly matters.

Several Rolls-Royce and Bentley engines currently undergoing full rebuild within our workshop.
Power units of this calibre are not simply repaired — they are carefully re-engineered to restore the refinement, silence, and effortless performance expected of Crewe-built motor cars.
Each engine is fully stripped, critically inspected, precision-machined where required, and meticulously reassembled — with particular attention to tolerances, balance, and long-term reliability.
This is not routine mechanical work.
It is the preservation of mechanical heritage, carried out to a standard these cars were originally built to — and, where possible, beyond.

Sometimes, even in a well-stocked workshop, we find ourselves just one part short of getting a job over the line.
That’s exactly when the donor car quietly earns its place.
But before a single spanner is lifted — it deserves a proper wash.
Years of grime, dust, and road history need to come off first… only then do you see what you’re really working with.
There’s something respectful about it. Even a parts car gets treated properly before giving a piece of itself to keep another Rolls-Royce or Bentley on the road.

A proper piece of craftsmanship in progress today.
A good old Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow receiving a wheel alignment — carried out the old-fashioned way. Set up using the traditional string line method: tensioned lines, careful measurement, and precise adjustment of each wheel against the reference.
There is something deeply satisfying about this process — simple, methodical, and precise. Watching everything come back into perfect alignment the way it should.
Classic engineering deserves a classic approach.

A touch of progress in the workshop today.
“Roly Poly” is currently undergoing steering knuckle refurbishment — a rather satisfying piece of engineering to revisit after five decades of service.
Six brand-new steering pins are being installed, restoring the front-end geometry and precision back to factory specification. A small detail on paper, yet transformative in terms of driving feel — bringing the car back to the refined, effortless experience it was designed to deliver.
Classic engineering, properly renewed.
