For families living in rural areas like ours, driving isnโt a luxury. For many, itโs the only realistic way to get to work, take children to school, attend medical appointments or simply do the weekly shop.
Yet a huge percentage of what we pay every time we fill the tank goes straight to the Government in taxes, duties and levies.
At a time when diesel is selling locally for around โฌ๐ฎ.๐ญ๐ฏ a litre, that level of taxation is increasingly difficult to justify.
And it doesnโt stop at the pump. Higher fuel costs feed into the cost of farming, deliveries, trades, local businesses and ultimately the price of the goods we all buy.
The Government has already shown it can reduce fuel taxation when prices become unsustainable. It should go further.

Rural communities like Inishowen shouldnโt be disproportionately hit simply because we donโt have the transport alternatives available elsewhere.
โฌ2.13 a litre is enough. Cut the tax on fuel. โฝ๏ธ๐
