With a full heart and deep gratitude, I want to let you all know that Thursday, 12th June 2025 will be our last trading day as Smyths Spar Williamstown. After years of incredible support from our staff, suppliers, and community, Iβve made the decision to step back and enjoy the next phase of life, a new chapter and a semi-retirement.
This has been a truly special chapter in my life, a family-run business where everyone from my wife Bridie, my children Eilis, Stephen, Padraig, Aoife and my grandson Dean , have all worked at some stage along side me on this journey.
Itβs impossible to put into words, so I will try to keep this as short as I can.
It brings us great comfort to know that the store will remain in excellent hands as we lease it to Eugene and Dymphna Sharkey. Well known for their exceptional store at Sharkeys Spar Tuam, they bring with them a wealth of experience. Their dedication reassures us that the store will continue to thrive in the very best of hands.
We would like to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude to our Manager Jane and incredible staff, both past and present, for their loyal support over the years. It has truly been an unforgettable journey, one filled with hard work, laughter, and a shared commitment to serving our community. Working alongside such dedicated and talented individuals has been an honour, and weβre proud of all weβve achieved together, including the many awards earned along the way.
Our sincere thanks also go to our suppliers. Your reliability and partnership have been essential in helping us deliver the quality products our customers have come to expect each day.
And, of course, to our loyal customers β thank you. Your continued support over the years has meant the world to us. Whether you stood by us through rebrands, joined us for community fundraisers, or simply kept shopping with us through the ups and downs, including a global pandemic, your loyalty and kindness have never gone unnoticed. Itβs truly been a rollercoaster, and weβre grateful to have shared it with you.
Finally, we wish Eugene and Dymphna every success as they take the reins. We have no doubt they will continue to grow and improve the business, keeping it at the heart of the Williamstown community.
With heartfelt thanks,
Martin, Bridie & the Smyth Family
