National Automotive 3/90 Branch

National Automotive 3/90 Branch National Automotive 3/90 Branch. Fighting for jobs, pay and conditions. Are you a Mechanic in Ireland? Are you tired of the low wages and lack of benefits e.g.

sick leave, pension, overtime? Is there health and safety concerns in your workplace? Or are you being undercut by unqualified workers? We are in one of the most technologically advanced trades, one which is constantly evolving and one in which we continuously need to adapt. This has never been reflected in our salary and it's something I feel needs to change. We took pay cuts in the recession or

were driven abroad to seek work. Now sales are booming and we have not seen this reflected in our wages. Unlike other trades there has never been a strong union presence within the motor industry and this page is aimed at opening up discussion on how we can improve our lot. I have spoken to mechanics across the industry who all feel the same. We need to come together or we won't be heard. It's time we got what we are due and stopped lagging behind the other trades. Please share this page and add your work buddies so that we can open up this discussion.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult for young people in Ireland to access apprenticeships, according to construction industry professionals.

What does the Irish motor trade look like for the young skilled lads coming up?

More of the same, head in sand, reactive and lacklustre oversight, OR a dynamic, fairly paid, respected and regulated aftermarket not focused on unit sales, shoehorning the public into BEV'S and P*P'S and utilising Ireland's vast talented workforce to its full potential?

Anyone in the autotmotive industry who wants to be part of our movement for change, jump on board the National Automotive Branch today!

Out on the road in Mullingar and North County Dublin last week talking with independent garages, mechanics and technicians, all of whom are flat out busy in the run up to Christmas. The hot topic is REGULATION, or the lack thereof, in the motor trade.

The National Automotive 3/90 Branch continues positioning itself as the united voice for long overdue change in the sector.

🚫 Selling cars and driving the public into BEVs and P*P finance should not be the sole focus.

👌Creating an attractive, fairly paid and respected motor industry MUST be.

Start the conversation about REGULATION in your garages and jump on board with us today!

Productive discussion yesterday down in Waterford ETB about the challenges facing mechanics and apprentices.

Lots of engaged mechanics working in independent shops frustrated with the lack of regulation in the sector, concern about undercutting and potentially dangerous working practices by unqualified workers.

What could regulation look like for mechanics? A register? A kitemark of quality? What effect would regulation have on the trade?

Interesting discussions yesterday at the , but the growing problem that nobody seems to want to discuss is the challenge in keeping pace with an increasing EV market share when it comes to the mumber of competent High Voltage Technicians and Experts we are producing.

The motor trade is playing catch up with the market, there is good work being done by independent and dealer training providers, but unless we invest in our General Technicians, mechanics and especially apprentices we will continue driving talent away.

Regulation, fair pay, respect and a change of public perception about what it takes to be a GOOD tech is required, so we want this discussion to start in the public and amongst influential players in the EV aftermarket...

Ever wonder who has the unenviable job of checking for faulty HV battery cells/modules at Jag/Landrover? Wonder no more...meet Spot; a Boston Dynamics robohound equipped with gas analysing sensors and the ability to step into areas that his frail human counterparts wouldnt risk. Ever seen a runaway HV battery?!

...Does this sound familiar to anyone in the motor trade?

Very impressed with the workshop setup down in Waterford, some excellent technical rigs and very engaged apprentices coming into the system. Same challenges though in this corner of the island: apprentice pay remains the hot topic when it comes to the retention of talent. We will continue banging the drum on their behalf ✊️

...and back down the way. Waterford Wexford Training Centre, we'll be seeing you tomorrow.

Great to see Motor Vehicle apprentices engaging with us, there's a lot of talent coming through the pipeline. Next stop on the college tour: Dundalk IT and ETB.
