What an amazing idea👏

Ireland's first women-focused taxi service, LadyCab, is launching this month in Dublin to offer safer journeys by giving women the option of choosing a female driver.

Founder Emanuela Negura was inspired to create the service after being attacked by a male passenger last year, realising that as taxi drivers, "we are so exposed to the dangers of Dublin’s nightlife" and that "if something goes wrong, you are on your own."

The service, whose tagline is "every woman deserves to get home safe," aims to make female passengers who don’t feel comfortable to go out feel safer, while also supporting female drivers who are reluctant to join the industry due to safety fears, by providing an enhanced system with features like real-time tracking and emergency alerts.

ANY PLANS FOR THE BANK HOLIDAY?

Here at Blood Bikes East we hope that all of our volunteers and supporters have had a lovely, relaxing bank holiday weekend!

While people across Ireland put their feet up and relaxed, this was not the case for BBE volunteers! Our volunteers were on call 24/7 over the weekend providing 100% FREE medical transport for our serviced hospitals and in cooperation with our partner Blood Bike Groups around the country!

Yeseterday morning, a milk run was waiting for BBE's volunteers instead of Chocolate eggs! Milk runs have grown to be a large part of BBE's service in processing donated and processed milk from donors, to the Human Milk Bank and back to premature babies who depend on this "liquid gold".

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our volunteers who were on shift over the weekend.

BLOOD BIKES EAST GOES TRULY INTERNATIONAL!

Here at Bikes East, we love meeting colleagues from other Blood Bike groups. And this week was a good one on that score. Five of the eight pictures are taken in Ireland, meeting members of our partner groups and three photos are taken in Hungary, yes, Hungary.

Our man Robert was back in his home country and met up with the local Blood Bikes group. He sent us this report:

"I have been following the Hungarian Bloodbikes group called since the beginning because of a common friend from the motorbike world and because I am spending summers back home in Hungary (this is year three!). So at some stage it was obvious that I was going to attend an event and meet up with the local guys.
This happened a few days ago at an event called Blue lights.

It's an event for volunteer and government supported groups (obviously using blue lights) like Fire bridge, Ambulance, Police and other groups.

I took my sons to the event and met the guys there and wanted to say hi and get to talk a little. Unfortunately my friend wasn't there but I stopped by and introduced myself and received a very warm welcome.

They showed me around, asked me about how are we operate and what are the similarities and differences between the 2 groups.
The main differences are the urgent calls here in Hungary which are supported by blue lights and sirens and the traffic has to yield tothe Bloodbikers. Much like ambulance drivers, the Blood bikers are allowed to drive over the speed limit and go through red lights, with due care and attention. Also it's a much smaller group covering the full map of Hungary.

They need to have special driver training similar like Rospa [a Blood Bikes East requirement] combined with some high speed training."

Well thanks for that Robert, this post is turning out to be a wholly international affair - featuring the Hungarian Blood Bikes group and compiled and written in France.

COMMUNITY SERVICES FUN DAY - WAS HAD BY ALL!!

On Saturday last, a fun day was held by community services in Tallaght at the square. Lots of service organisations were in attendance from Police to Fire Brigade to volunteer groups like ourselves, Blood Bikes East.

This was not an opportunity to do any fund raising, but rather a chance for us to meet the public, those who support us in doing what we do.

One special hero turned up on the day, Batman himself. He said he was considering going all electric with his vehicles and he was there to pick our brains on how we were getting on with our all electric bike, the Zero. As you can see from the picture, he was utterly captivated. So the baddies better luck out as they will no longer hear him coming!

So a good day was had by all and special thanks to Aidan and his crew for manning the Bikes East stand.
