12 EDT completed ✅

That’s important—but don’t confuse completion with competence.

Before your test, ask yourself:

Can I drive safely without constant prompting?

Can I identify hazards myself?

Can I make decisions under pressure?

Can I recover calmly when something doesn’t go perfectly?

Your objective should never simply be:

“Finish my 12 lessons.”

It should be:

“Become capable of driving independently.”

Having a driving-test date doesn’t automatically mean you’re ready.

And knowing every road around a test centre doesn’t guarantee a pass.

Real preparation means becoming increasingly independent.

The examiner needs to see that you can safely deal with whatever develops—not simply reproduce something you’ve memorised.

Save this if your test is coming up.

Are you test-ready—or simply test-booked?

There is a difference.

Being test-ready means you can consistently:

✅ Observe independently
✅ Make safe decisions
✅ Manage hazards
✅ Control speed and position
✅ Recover calmly from mistakes

Your instructor shouldn’t have to mentally drive the car for you.

Independence is one of the clearest signs of progress.

Would you change driving-test centre for a shorter wait?

Recent Dublin waiting times vary considerably.

But remember:

A shorter waiting list doesn’t automatically mean an easier test.

Choose strategically, practise properly and develop skills you can transfer to unfamiliar roads.

👇 Finglas or Tallaght—which are you preparing for?

🚨 Raheny learner drivers — important update.

Raheny Driving Test Centre is due to temporarily close on 18 September 2026, with services moving to Killester.

Existing applicants are expected to transfer automatically and keep their queue position.

So don’t panic—but don’t stop preparing either.

Your test centre may change. The driving standard you need doesn’t.

📍 Are you waiting for Raheny, Finglas, Mulhuddart or Tallaght?

One Grade 3 fault can end your driving test—even if the rest of the drive was solid.

These five habits can turn into serious or dangerous faults:

1. Moving before you have fully checked
2. Taking a gap that makes another road user brake or change direction
3. Ignoring a traffic light, sign or road marking
4. Using the wrong speed for the road, traffic or conditions
5. Waiting too long when a clearly safe gap is available

The goal is not a “perfect” drive. It is a safe, observant and decisive one.

Save this before test day, send it to someone learning to drive, and comment 1–5 with the habit you find hardest.

Follow for calm, clear driving tips and pre-test support in Ireland.

Based on the RSA Driver Tester Marking Guidelines. The grade given to a fault depends on its seriousness, repetition and the danger created.

New learner-permit rules begin on 1 November 2026.

For affected third- and fourth-permit holders, simply applying for a test will no longer be enough.

Don’t wait until October.

Check:

✅ Which learner permit you’re currently on
✅ Its expiry date
✅ When you last sat a driving test
✅ Whether you need to prepare for a test before the change

If you’re unsure, check your situation directly with the RSA/NDLS.
