30 seconds into the test… and it’s potentially over. 😬

This learner does almost everything right…

✔️ Slows right down.
✔️ Looks both ways.
❌ But never actually brings the car to a complete stop.

In the Irish driving test, slowing down isn’t enough at a STOP line.

The car must come to a complete stop before you continue. If it doesn’t, it’s treated as failing to comply with the stop requirement.

It’s one of the easiest mistakes to avoid—but it’s also one of the most costly.

Remember: Stop. Settle. Check. Then go. 🚗🇮🇪

This video is for educational purposes. The faults discussed are based on my opinion as a driving instructor preparing learners for the Irish driving test and are not an official driving test result.

A big congratulations to Lucinda who passed her driving test at Raheny test centre yesterday 🚗🎉 She also left a lovely review:

I can’t recommend Jackson enough! He took me on at very short notice and was so accommodating, making time for pre-test lessons and providing car hire when I needed it most. His calm, supportive approach really helped build my confidence.

I also bought his driving test book for €10, which made a huge difference in helping me prepare.

Thanks to Jackson’s guidance, I passed my automatic driving test first time! I’m absolutely delighted and so grateful for all of his help and encouragement. Thanks again Jackson ☺️

This turnabout looked difficult… but it didn’t have to be. 👀

The biggest mistake wasn’t the manoeuvre itself.

It was the steering.

By not using full steering lock, the car never reached its maximum turning angle, which meant he had to take extra movements just to complete the turnabout.

On top of that, he missed his blind spot checks on both reversing movements, which would potentially result in observation faults during the driving test.

The best turnabouts aren’t about taking more turns…

They’re about trusting the car, using the full width of the road, getting the maximum angle on each turn, and keeping your observations consistent from start to finish. 🚗🇮🇪

Potential faults discussed are my opinion as a driving instructor based on Irish driving test standards and are not an official driving test result.

One small mistake… then a much bigger one. 😬

The first mistake? Misjudging a gap at a roundabout and potentially taking another driver’s right of way.

But that’s not what caused the potential fail.

Instead of moving on, he kept thinking about the roundabout and asking me if the gap was big enough.

A few seconds later, he followed a truck overtaking a bus without having a clear view of the oncoming lane.

By the time he got past the bus, an oncoming truck was already there, leaving very little room to complete the overtake safely.

This is why I always tell my learners:

👉 If you think you’ve made a mistake during your driving test, let it go.

You can’t change what’s already happened, but you can stop one mistake from turning into two.

Stay focused on what’s happening ahead, not what’s happened behind. 🚗🇮🇪

Potential faults discussed are my opinion as a driving instructor based on Irish driving test standards and are not an official driving test result.
