🛑 Breaking the speed limit?

👮 If you’re found to be over the speed limit, you’ll get a €160 fine and 3 penalty points.

If you don’t pay within 28 days, your fine increases to €240 (and you could face higher fines, extra penalty points and a court summons if you continue not to pay).

🚗 Since 2025, the default speed limit on rural roads reduced from 80km/hr to 60km/hr.

🔎 Local authorities are now reviewing the speed limits in built-up areas, like housing estates and town centres. It’s expected these will reduce from 50km/hr to 30km/hr by 31 March 2027.

The Road Safety Authority has confirmed that the centre is now live on the MyRoadSafety customer portal for applicants who have already received an invitation to book a test.

🚨🚘 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐚 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞

I’m pleased to say that I have this morning received confirmation that Drogheda’s long-awaited new driving test centre is opening for driving test applications.

The new test centre, which is located at the Southgate Shopping Centre, will support learner drivers in Drogheda and the wider surrounding area by increasing local access to testing and helping more applicants to progress on their journey towards obtaining a full driving licence.

This is something I have been pushing hard over the past year having met and engaged with officials on numerous occasions to stress the importance of this for the area.

This new centre forms part of the RSA’s ongoing work to strengthen the national driver testing network and to respond to demand where it arises.
Capacity at the Drogheda centre will be kept under active review and will be based on real-time response to demand, ensuring resources are deployed where they are most needed across the national network.

In the coming days, learner drivers will be able to access the booking option for the new Drogheda test centre at www.myroadsafety.rsa.ie
