Driving in summer ๐ŸŒž
Extreme heat can be just as tough on your car as extreme cold and you need to prepare your car to cope with a long hot summer just as you would a long cold winter.
Make sure you have enough coolant
A car's engine can overheat in hot weather as it struggles to keep itself cool while stopped at the lights in the blazing sun. Coolant is your car's main defence against this. Make sure you have enough as it can deplete quite quickly, and have it completely flushed and refilled every couple of years (or as per manufacturers recommendations) to ensure maximum efficiency.
Protect your car from the sun
Excessive sunshine can damage your paintwork causing premature fading and can even destroy your car's interior over prolonged periods of time โ€“ leather seats are especially susceptible to fading and cracking in extreme heat. Protect it by always parking out of direct sunlight or in a covered area, buying a sunshade or even tinting your windows, and always keep your car clean (a dirty car absorbs more heat).
Be prepared for long journeys
Summer means long road trips for many motorists and the last thing you need is a motoring disaster to spoil your summer holidays. Be sure to carry out a thorough check of fluid levels (oil, brake fluid, water), lights and tyre pressure before you leave. Always carry basic brake-down essentials and a first-aid kit in case of emergency. It's a good idea to keep a map or atlas in the car too as Sat-Navs have been known to lose signal on some country roads. Check the legislation if you are travelling around to ensure you comply with the rules of the country you are visiting โ€“ ie head lamp dip โ€“ carrying a spare bulb pack ๐Ÿ’กetc....

Stop Rust Killing Your Car!!!
Over time small scratches will appear and gaps in the protective paint layer will form. Thatโ€™s when iron oxide becomes a problem, which is why itโ€™s vital that the car is cleaned and waxed regularly (clean every two weeks, wax every month is a good rule of thumb).

When the car is cleaned, make sure to wipe off any excess water with a chamois. You must also pay close attention while cleaning and drying your wheel arches; this is where dirty water tends to lurk and cause serious long-term damage. And donโ€™t forget to keep the water drainage points free from dirt too.

If you live by the sea or if you drive over salty roads, make sure you keep an even closer eye on every inch of your carโ€™s body ๐Ÿ‘

How's your brakes??
Fading or lack of responsiveness: If your brakes donโ€™t seem to have that โ€œbiteโ€ they used to, or if the pedal โ€œsinksโ€ toward the floor when you apply a constant pressure, you could have a leak in your brake system. Either air is getting in, or brake fluid is getting out.
Pulling: When you get on the brakes, does your car โ€œpullโ€ to the left or right? Your brakes could be worn unevenly and in need of an adjustment.
Grinding or growling noises: You didnโ€™t pay attention to the indicator noise I talked about above, did you? Grinding/growling noises come from pads that are completely worn out, and the metal backing plate of the pad is now rubbing against the disc. Not only is this extremely dangerous, as you have very little stopping power this way, but your discs will have to be replaced as well.

Vibration: If your brake pedal is trying to give you a foot massage, you may have warped brake discs. Brake discs can be warped from long periods of sustained, heavy braking, such as driving down a steep mountain or when towing. Bear in mind though, a vibration can also be caused by your car being out of alignment.
Again, if after reading this guide you are still unsure of whether your brakes need to be replaced or not, contact us to have them inspected.

Your brakes are one of the most important safety features of your car, so donโ€™t gamble with them.
