Is this some sort of joke? When will people wake up to the fact the creation of the 26 county Irish Republic was the biggest laugh the English has had over us in the last 900 years?
We never got freedom or our Ireland back.
We continue to get our identity diluted by an Illegal Government, becoming illegal when they stopped acting in the best interest of Irish people ☘️
WE DEMAND that no former Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) member be permitted to serve in the Irish Republic's An Garda Síochána.
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have yet again appointed another former RUC member to the highest levels of the Garda command.
Garda Assistant Commissioner Jonathan Roberts is responsible for Governance and Accountability. He served in the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) and Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) for 25 years before joining An Garda Síochána in August 2022.
The conduct of the Royal Ulster Constabulary during The Troubles — including widely alleged persecution, discrimination, and violence against Irish nationalists — represents, in this view, a fundamental conflict with Irish interests and is sufficient to justify a permanent ban on former members joining An Garda Síochána.
In addition, members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary swore an oath of allegiance to the British Crown. From that perspective, allegiance is framed as an enduring duty grounded in the common-law idea of “perpetual allegiance” to the monarch, who embodies the state. All of which conflicts with the Irish constitution, and especially the 1916 Proclamation, the founding declaration of the Irish Republic, to which the British Crown executed the brave patriots who had signed it, in the aftermath of the Easter Rising.
