A super weekend on the water with members completing some powerboat training with one of our Powerboat Senior Instructors on site with them for 2 days.

Great to work with clubs like this who are keen to increase the safety of their operations afloat for the season ahead. Looking forward to coming back already!

Our Search and Rescue (SAR) programmes are designed to build operational capability, leadership, crew coordination and decision-making — not simply basic certification.

We develop not only operational rescue crews, but also the instructors, standards and systems that support long-term SAR capability for organisations around the country.

Algal Blooms have been reported to the council all around the shores of Lough Corrib and in particular the following locations:
Kilbeg pier.
Annaghdown
Oughterard
Birchall Bay
Glann shore
Derrymoyle Bay
Rinneroon Bay
Golden Bay
Recent unseasonal warm and calm weather is the likely reason for this occurrence. An algal bloom is an overgrowth of algae that can be seen as green or blue/green streaks or slimy scums. Some blooms can produce toxins and their presence can potentially cause a risk to human and animal health. When an algal bloom is present, Galway County Council advises the public:
Humans and animals should avoid contact with areas of water or shoreline that have visible algal concentrations and/or scums.
Not to swim in waters where algal blooms are present.
Animals should be prevented from drinking water from the lake, as ingestion of scums may cause severe reactions including fatality.
If you do come into contact with the algal bloom, you should shower/ wash as soon as possible to remove algal matter. Wash all affected clothing and equipment thoroughly.
