📢 Carnew Town Team Statement
Carnew Town Team is deeply saddened by the announcement of the proposed closure of the ProAmpac facility in Carnew.
For more than 35 years, this factory has been an integral part of our town, providing employment for generations of local families. The proposed loss of 39 jobs is not just a loss for those directly affected—it is a significant blow to the entire Carnew community.
Our thoughts are first and foremost with the employees and their families during what is undoubtedly an anxious and uncertain time. Many of those affected have dedicated years—and in some cases decades—of loyal service. They deserve to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect throughout the consultation process.
We are calling on and our Government and local public representatives Wicklow County Council, Local Enterprise Office Wicklow, Ida Ireland, Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Simon Harris TD Malcolm Byrne Brian Brennan TD Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin TD Jason Mulhall Peter Burke TD Peter Stapleton Avril Cronin James Browne, Edward Timmins to work together to provide every possible support to the affected workers and their families.
We also urge every effort to be made to attract new investment into Carnew and to explore every opportunity to secure a future for this important industrial site. Rural communities like ours cannot continue to lose long-established employers without a coordinated response.
As a community, we also want to understand the journey that has brought us to this point.
