Hi everyone.
Just an update up on the robbery of the van that was taken from the garage in Ballon last week.
It has been located in Roscommon and will be back in our custody Tuesday.
I want to say a massive thank you to everyone for all of the shares, messages and calls over the past week.
It was all very much appreciated by both ourselves in the garage and the owners of the van.

**STOLEN**
On the night of the 5th of February 2026 between the times of 23.55 and 00.06 a lone male entered our carpark in the Ballon Garage and stole the below vehicle - 161-D-35749 Fiat Doblo.
He gained access under the bonnet and within 11 minutes he had the van running and left our premises. Unbelievably, we still hold the key and the owner of the van is in possession of the spare one. He pulled off the robbery without any key so the vehicle may appear damaged around the ignition area.
If anyone comes across the vehicle below could they please contact me directly on 087-7871899 or Tullow Gardaí on 059-9151222.
Any information received would be greatly appreciated.

That’s us done for 2025.
Winnie reckoned it was time to get a bit of lunch and a drink with the lads one last time for this year and call it a day.
I would like to give a truly heartfelt and sincere word of thanks to each and every one of you that have supported us in any way this year.
It’s your continued support that keeps our doors open and for that I am truly grateful to all of you.
It’s clear to see that the rising cost of living is having an impact on every household at the moment and to know that you choose us for your vehicle needs means a lot to us.
On the plus side, values of cars definitely took a tumble this year and you now get more car for your money than you did last year and it’s for that reason that I have been lucky enough to secure a record number of vehicles for January stock from our supply partners and along with what’s already for sale in the yard you will see a huge choice of almost 100 retail cars there in January.
Looking forward to seeing old and new faces when we reopen on Tuesday the 6th of January, but until then I would like to wish all of you a Happy Christmas & a Peaceful and Joyful New Year.

Today JohnJoe celebrated the 10 year milestone as a full time member of staff in Gleeson Sales & Service.
Although he has been here since day one, it was only in 2015 that the business was in a position to take on a staff member to help me run things.
He’s the brains behind most of what goes on to be honest 😂.
3650 days of rowing with eachother. 3650 days of hanging up on eachother in anger. 3650 days of winding eachother up, but most importantly 3650 days of being there for eachother through all of the good times, the bad ones and the indeed the all too common stressful ones.
He’s been there for countless days and years for all of that and more in my personal life, but today we count only the days while working with eachother full time. We probably don’t want to still be at it in another ten years, but who knows…. We might not have a choice. Who else would want us 😂.

16 years of Gleeson Sales & Service.
Since day one I have been very lucky to get to work with a great team, and that goes for anyone that I have worked with, past or present!
What started off as myself full time and JohnJoe part time has grown in to a team of eight people and a doggo (that earns more profit than any of the people through sales 😂).
A huge thank you to everyone for all of the continued help and support as without your custom, loyalty & friendship we would be nowhere and for that I am extremely grateful.
Here’s to 16 more years 🎉

Hi everyone.
(I forgot to take a garage picture for this post so this one of our little mascot Winnie should suffice 😂)
The workshop has closed its doors for the last time in 2024, and on behalf of JohnJoe, the lads and me, I would like to send a sincere message of gratitude and thanks to each and every person that we have done business with this year.
As the same with every year, the support that we have received from our loyal following of customers, friends, family and our colleagues in the trade has been overwhelmingly phenomenal and we had a very busy year from early January right up until the present day and it’s all thanks to all of you.
We enter 2025 with three more staff members than we had coming in to 2024 and we hope to continue to remain steady for the year ahead.
Understandably, the motor trade is seeing major changes with the way it operates due to the change in emission controls and indeed consumer spending habits & price increases across the board, but we work to try and keep the cost changes to the bare minimum whilst keeping the business afloat and all of the bills paid.
Without JohnJoe and the lads I wouldn’t be able to keep it all going behind the scenes and for that I thank them also. Everyone pulls their weight and they always go above and beyond when necessary without the expectations of anything in return.
Thank God for Winnie, because she probably sold more cars than I did this year, she definitely wins the award for sales executive of the year this year 😂.
Again I can’t stress enough how grateful I am to everyone for helping to keep us in business for another year and we hope to see you all again in 2025 and beyond.

This morning it dawned on me that I am 15 years in business next week.
I started out as only a chap with no idea or cop on as to the challenges that lay ahead of me and €3000 in savings that I could afford to allocate to taking the risk of buying and selling cars and opening a business in the middle of a recession.
To celebrate still being open I have decided to give back what I put in to the business and donate €1000 each to three charities as I know how lucky and fortunate I am that I have made it to this milestone.
I work with a great team of friends and colleagues and I can’t put in to words how much all of their constant help and support has helped me get to where I am now, both in business and my personal life. I have made friends for life that I wouldn’t give up for millions!
After some thought I felt that the ones closest to our hearts were Féileacáin Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support, Cara Dog Rescue & Pieta House. These donations are only a drop in the ocean to providing some help to these charities that provide so much help and care to those in need and it makes me extremely proud to be able to give a little bit back to others.
The help and support shown to me from all of our customers has been overwhelming since I first opened and as usual I can’t thank you all enough for everything, it’s your help and support that has provided the aid for us grow to a small team based in two locations.
Winnie 🐶 helps keep me on the straight and narrow and keeps me calm and focused, but I need to say a special word of thanks also to my right hand man JohnJoe and his family for putting up with me every day for 15 years, I would be nowhere without you guys!
Here’s to another 15 years.
Thanks again for everything. There has been ups and downs, but the ups have outweighed the downs.

Update on the stolen car -

I am out of the country myself at the moment and was of no help in sorting anything to do with the robbery at all, but thanks to the power of social media and some unbelievable friends the car was located in Dublin and was recovered intact, it’s on its way back to Carlow as we speak.
As usual, the lads I work with went above and beyond their call of duty to sort this for me and took on the headache for me so I could try and enjoy my time off. One friend in particular got involved and sorted the whole thing out before the details even made it on to the Pulse system and he will never know how grateful I am for his help, without it I would be going to sleep tonight at a total loss. It’s tough enough keeping a business afloat at the moment without this happening and a huge weight has been lifted.
To every single person that commented on, liked or shared my post I want to say a huge thank you. I can’t believe how far it travelled in such a short space of time.
It was all of the help and support that I received tonight that turned this in to a somewhat positive experience and I can’t thank you all enough.

Hi All. A bit of bad luck unfortunately. At 4am this morning a van entered our premises Gleeson Sales & Service at the Texaco Complex in Ballon and they made off with 2 barrels of oil & a 2016 Skoda Superb - reg no. 161WX2621. If anyone is offered / or sees anything that may help with ongoing investigations could you please make contact with any Garda Station or myself. It would be much appreciated. Also, if you could give this post a share please, I would really appreciate it. A great start to the new year 🥺

The doors have just rolled down for the last time this year in the workshop in Ballon and what a year it was!
As much as ever I need to thank every single person that gave us any form of business or recommendation this year. It was another record breaking year for us and I am eternally grateful for all of the support that we have received from every customer, friend or family member, new or old.
In a time where businesses are struggling with the rise in operating costs, it has been all of you that has ensured our survival to date and with the bookings that are already in place for 2024 I’m confident that we will weather the storm then too.
I know we close earlier than some places, but the few days rest for the lads is hugely deserved after that year. They never stopped from the minute we opened last January right up until this evening. They can’t be thanked enough for their tireless efforts in helping me run the show as it’s not always easy at times I can assure you!
They have been there and stuck by me for the good & bad and the ups & downs this year, in both my personal life and working life and I have no words to describe my gratitude to them, but I think they know how appreciated they are by me.
Outside of ourselves we have had a huge outpouring of help from other stand alone garages such as ours this year and it definitely helped us to run things a little bit smoother, be it from other garages & mechanics, to recovery crews, valetors, sales places or auto electricians and its help like this that shows what sort of a community we work in with our colleagues. It’s not all about competition as some people would believe, everyone is out to help when necessary and it has built a huge friendship base that we will take to our graves.
We look forward to working with all of you in 2024, and as usual if anyone is stuck over Christmas I am available on my mobile on 087-7871899 and if I can help in any way I will.
Myself & Winnie 🐶 will be working in the sales yard in Carlow up until next Friday evening, so if anyone is on the market for a new car call in, that’s what we’re there for!
Thanks again to each and every one of you for everything from 2009 right up until today, without all of your support we wouldn’t be open.
P.S I realise it’s just my head in the picture, I was the one behind the camera and used my impeccable photo shop skills to add myself in later 😂.
