What can you buy for €25,000?

When buying a used car, it's important to have it inspected thoroughly to ensure that it's in good condition. During the pre-purchase car inspection that was completed on the Land Rover Discovery Sport in Dublin, we found that the vehicle was imported from the UK and sold in the auction in February 2019 and had no NCT from 31/12/2020 - 06/06/2023.

Structural repair was done on the rear right quarter panel. The rear right door was replaced. The front right door was repaired and resprayed. Front right-wing resprayed. The front left door was resprayed. The rear left door was resprayed and repaired.
Front passenger side seatbelt was replaced.

The respray that was done on the parts mentioned above is poor quality: Dirt is visible underneath the paint, faded paint in some parts, excessive amount of lacquer used

Officially this car was never written - off!

The VIN number did not match and the airbags were rolled up.

What is the VIN number? The car's vehicle identification number (VIN) is the identifying code for a SPECIFIC automobile. The VIN serves as the car's fingerprint, as no two vehicles in operation have the same VIN.

When buying a car, you must always check the VIN number located in 3x places on BMW:
1) On the dashboard near the base of the windscreen on the passenger side
2) Under the bonnet of the vehicle stamped/printed near the top of the suspension mounting.
3) On the driver's side door jamb

During the inspection, the dashboard VIN didn’t match with stamped VIN, so we investigated further

🔴 Rear right quarter panel repaired
🔴 Previously had frontal damage
🔴 VIN number not matching on the dashboard

If you are buying a car and the VIN number is not matching it’s a clear sign to walk away from the deal.

Can a brand-new car be a write-off?

People who don't want to have any issues with the vehicle are considering purchasing a brand-new one, but what if a brand new is not always as new as you might think?

Before the vehicle reaches its final destination - show room, there is a transportation process involved during which a brand new vehicle can be damaged, sometimes its minor damage, sometimes major, but in the most cases it will be repaired so we - the customers won't find out and the price on the vehicle will be the same as one beside it that was never repaired.

We did a pre-purchase car inspection today on Toyota Prius 2014 with only one owner from new and full service history with hybrid battery health check certificates. Inspection results were a big surprise for the owner of the car - the vehicle was already repaired before it was sold brand new for a full price. Please see the inspection results below:

It's been 9 years now since the car was bought, but from looking at the quality of repairs/ resprays and from talking to the owner of the car, it was clear for us that repairs were done before this car was sold brand new.

9 Owners And No Air Bags.

Our customer had a bad experience previously owning a BMW, so he decided to do a pre-purchase car inspection on this BMW to make sure he knows as much as possible before his final decision to buy it.

When you look at car ads, the first thing you check is pictures - if the pictures look good, you will read the description. This is how the description looked for this car:
"Selling my beloved BMW with low mileage and 4 new tyres. NCT is just out, and the only bad points are that the A/C is not working."

There is no doubt that the LAST owner loved his BMW and as soon as he got it he did a fresh service and 4 new tires, but he owns the car only for the last 5 months and there were 8 other owners for this BMW before him that didn't love it as much as he did.

Buying First Car.

We have all been there, thinking about which make and model to buy, what engine size, what year and how much is going to cost car Insurance per year. When you finally chose the best car that will suit you it's time to see it and buy it. Simple isn't it?

Our customer spoke with the seller and was told the usual phrases:
" Selling the car because getting company car".
"I'm a mechanic myself and the car has been very well looked after."
He was ready to buy it and at the last minute he made a booking on our website www.carexperts.ie for a pre-purchase car inspection and it was the right thing to do.

What we found out during the pre-purchase car inspection:
🔴 Seller is not the owner of the car (Reseller).
🔴 Write off Category D in 2017 and Write off Category C in 2020. On Donedeal it was verified as not written - off

It's been a while since we posted results of pre-purchase car inspections because for the last few months we were extremely busy with inspections and we are very thankful to our customers for trusting us to do inspection on the car they are about to purchase.

From now on, we will be posting cars that we checked with surprises like - previously damaged and poorly repaired with engine problems and also scams that we have noticed within 3 years of doing pre-purchase car inspections.

Buying a car can be exhausting, worrying and take so much time, especially if you don’t want to buy a car that will require big expenses in the next month. Some people just want to get a car that is safe for them and their family and haven’t been in any previous accidents.
One of our pre-purchase car inspection services is called “Expert for a day”. What is it ? We will check as many cars as possible for you during the day and help you to decide which car is the best out of what we checked, here is the example of car inspections we did
1) Toyota prius 2008 hybrid - Car was is good condition overall, there was previous repair done on rear left door + quarter panel, quality repair done, wasn’t serious damage but filler was used to repair them.

One of the main reasons why we couldn’t recommend this car was because hybrid battery is overheating in this car, it will cause problems with hybrid battery in near future and will be costly to repair

2) VW polo 2008: there was previous frontal damage on this car, car body panels were replaced/fixed as cheap as possible and air bag light dimmed. Front left door was badly resprayed and replaced from a car with different colour that you could see from the inside door. Both headlight holders welded in and radiator had damage.

3) Toyota prius 2007 blue: Previously was seriously damaged in numerous places, rear left quarter panel had welding signs and filler used, front bumper resprayed with bad quality, damaged parts in engine bay, rear right door possibly replaced.

4) Toyota IQ: No service history, no coolant, front and rear bumper would need a respray, interior valeting recommended, rear bumper not aligned with quarter panel. This car I’m better condition than other cars that we managed to check however our customer decided not to buy it and think about some other car.

Pre-purchase car inspection done on Kia Picanto in Dublin. This car had been previously damaged in 2 places- left side of the car and rear right side quarter panel, 2 front seatbelts had been replaced on this car and most likely airbags popped out from steering wheel and passenger side. Our customer had deposit left for this car but after inspection he decided not to purchase this car and got his deposit back ✅. We did full history check for this car and it was clear from any previous insurance claims

🟠 Signs of emulsion under oil cap and also stains of burned oil
🟠 Few stain marks on car ceiling
🟠 Computer diagnostics detected airbag faults and ABS faults
🟠 Front bumper cosmetic resprayed and not aligned with front left quarter panel
🟠 Full car is cosmetic resprayed except bonnet and roof
🟠 chip mark on bonnet
🟠 signs of previous repairs on rear left passenger door towards middle of the car (filler used ) and rear left quarter panel (filler used ) also bumper have small paint damage on right side
🟠 Dents on roof + front right quarter panel
🟠 DSC on car is not turning off
🟠 Rough to put in reverse gearbox
🟠 Car is pulling to the left side while driving
