The S63 is a phenomenal performance engine, but like many high-output BMW V8s, connecting rod bearing wear is something owners should be aware of as mileage increases.
Preventative maintenance remains the key to avoiding much more costly repairs down the line.
This 2016 M5 came in for a preventative connecting rod bearing service, so it was time to get the subframe down and carry out the following:
✅ ACL Race connecting rod bearing set
✅ Genuine BMW connecting rod bolts
✅ Genuine BMW gaskets, O-rings and hardware throughout
✅ Thorough inspection and measurement of all bearing journals and clearances
✅ Meticulous cleaning of all mating surfaces and components
✅ ROWE 5W50 engine oil (customer's choice)
✅ Liqui Moly Cera Tec engine protection treatment
As you can see from the photos, the original bearings were showing the expected signs of wear for the mileage and usage of the vehicle. While no immediate failure was present, replacing them now provides valuable peace of mind and helps safeguard the engine for many more miles of enjoyment.
All components were carefully inspected during disassembly, bearing clearances verified during installation, and every fastener torqued to BMW specification.
