That feeling of watching students go from a "death-grip on the handlebars" to "cruising Canggu like a local" is exactly why we do this. 🛵💨
Huge shoutout to these two legends who absolutely smashed their lesson today! They arrived with a few nerves and left with the confidence to take on the Bali roads.
Safe travels, legends! See you out there. 🌴✨

To ensure a solid foundation, our initial lessons are conducted on quiet, low-traffic roads. This approach allows students to comfortably master the fundamentals of driving on the left-hand side of the road, building the necessary confidence and muscle memory required before we transition into busier urban environments. Safety and precision are our top priorities from day one

Bali traffic is basically a live reality show😁

You never know if the next scooter carries 2 people... 5 dogs... or a whole tree🛵🐶💪

← Send this to a friend that goes to Bali soon to prepare them mentally 👋

Never ridden a bike before but Yogi was a brilliant teacher. His English is perfect, he explains things really well, very patient and encouraging.
I had two lessons and was on the road in my second lesson. So now I have the confidence to rent my own scooter.
Can’t recommend enough!!!

While foundational skills begin on level terrain, our curriculum extends to comprehensive hill start and descent training. We ensure every student develops the technical proficiency and confidence required to navigate varying elevations safely.

I had one motorbike lesson to learn how to use the gears on a manual motorbike.
Rico the instructor was great. He explained everything clearly and gave good advice when I didn't get something quite right. After a bit of practice on a quiet road we drove on busier roads.
I now feel confident to ride a manual motorbike after one lesson. I'm very happy with the service I received from Canggu Scooter Lessons!

1. The "Invisible" Road Conditions
• Gravel and Sand: This is the #1 cause of low-speed wipes. Construction is everywhere, and sand often spills onto the asphalt, especially in corners. It’s like riding on marbles.
• Potholes & Missing Grates: Tropical rains are brutal on roads. You’ll find deep potholes or missing metal drainage grates (often in the middle of the lane) that can swallow a tire.

2. Environmental Surprises
• Ceremonial Processions: You might turn a corner and find 100 people in traditional dress walking a temple float. Do not honk. Just wait or follow the lead of the locals.
• Dogs and Livestock: Bali dogs are street-smart, but they can be unpredictable. Chickens and cows are also common sights in more rural areas like Sidemen or Munduk.

3. Human & Traffic Behavior
• The "Bali Indicator": A left blinker might mean "I'm turning left," or it might mean "I forgot I turned it on three kilometers ago." Conversely, some riders will turn without any signal at all.
• Overtaking on the Left: While people pass on the right, it is very common for scooters to squeeze through the left side. Check your mirrors constantly.
• The "Short Cut" (Gang) Entrances: People will pull out of narrow alleys (gangs) onto main roads without looking or stopping. Always cover your brakes when passing a line of alleys.

Such a great experience with Mamo! I was putting off lessons and getting a scooter myself for months and so glad I finally did this!!

We spent an hour + in the parking lot getting comfortable with turns, hills and breaking — then went out for a ride with the locals / public. I felt supported, safe and encouraged. I even rented my own scooter from them directly after and scootered home safely alone!

Here’s a breakdown of the fundamental moves and why you use them:

The Clutch
Its job is to connect engine power to the wheel. You'll find the "bite point" and modulate the speed by slightly pulling in or easing out within the friction zone. On a downhill, easing the clutch out slows you down, pulling it in lets you roll faster.

The Throttle
Your power source. Starting uphill requires steady, gentle power to keep the engine from stalling. Downhill, you often need none.

The Rear Brake
This is your anchor. It's used on an uphill start to hold the bike in place as you engage the clutch, and on a downhill to control your descent speed while your clutch manages the roll.
