If you don’t have insurance, the first thing you should do is check the repair cost at an official dealership. Many people assume it’s always more expensive, but that’s not necessarily true in Bali. In fact, smaller repair shops often charge even more because they buy their parts from official dealers.

Here’s a rough idea of what repairs can cost:

💸 Replacing one plastic body panel: IDR 120,000–200,000
💸 Headlight replacement: from IDR 700,000
💸 Front fork replacement: from IDR 1,500,000

These are average parts prices and don’t include labour. Honda parts are generally more expensive than Yamaha parts.

If your rental company gives you a repair quote:

✅ Check the price with an official dealer first.
✅ Compare it with your rental company’s quote.
✅ If the rental company’s price is higher, use the official quote as a reference when negotiating.

💡 The easiest way to avoid unexpected repair costs is to get insurance before you ride.

🌴 3 mistakes people make on their first trip to Bali ⬇️

1️⃣ Thinking everything is close. On the map, your next stop might be just 20 km away. In reality, that drive can easily take over an hour because of traffic. Don’t try to squeeze 5–6 places into one day—you’ll spend more time on the road than actually enjoying Bali.

2️⃣ Trying to see the whole island in one trip. Bali is much bigger than most people expect. Instead of rushing from one side of the island to the other, pick 2–3 areas and really explore them.

3️⃣ Staying in just one area. Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Sanur, Amed and Sidemen all feel completely different. If you have the time, split your stay between at least two areas—you’ll get a much better feel for the island.

✨ One more tip: the best way to explore Bali is with your own scooter or car. No waiting for taxis, no expensive fares, and no having to plan your day around a driver. See a nice beach, viewpoint or café? Just pull over and enjoy it.

Planning Bali in August? It’s one of the best months of the year — but it pays to prepare in advance.

Here are the most common reasons tourists get pulled over:

🪖 No helmet
One of the easiest ways to get stopped. More importantly, it’s your best protection on Bali’s roads.
Fine: up to 250,000 IDR

🪪 No valid motorcycle license
Even if you get stopped for something completely different, the police will almost always ask to see your driver’s license.

A car license isn’t enough to ride a scooter in Indonesia. You need:
✔️ an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle category, or
✔️ a valid Indonesian motorcycle license.

Good news: If you need a local Indonesian motorcycle license, we can guide you through the process. Just send us a DM.

Fine: up to 1,000,000 IDR

🚦 Running a red light
Traffic police regularly monitor busy intersections.
Fine: up to 500,000 IDR

⛔ Crossing the stop line
Even if the light is still red, crossing the white stop line can get you stopped. Sometimes you’ll simply be asked to move back, but you can also receive a fine.
Fine: up to 500,000 IDR

👥 Carrying too many passengers
You might see locals doing it, but tourists are much more likely to be stopped for it. If you’re traveling in a group, rent a car or take a taxi instead.

👕 Riding shirtless
It’s not technically illegal, but it’s considered disrespectful to local culture. Police may stop you, remind you about local customs, and check your documents.

Other common fines:

• No license plate — 500,000 IDR
• Speeding — 500,000 IDR
• Modified bike (loud exhaust or no mirrors) — 250,000 IDR
• No STNK (bike registration document) — 500,000 IDR
• Riding without lights at night — 250,000 IDR
• Not using your turn signal — 250,000 IDR
