When you are in Budapest, taking a walk at Pest Inner City is an absolute must. It is the most prestigious part of Budapest, home to the city’s largest pedestrian shopping area characterized by the vibrant Váci street, Fashion street, Vörösmarthy Square, elegant mansions, cafés and restaurants. During this walk, you will take a stroll on Pest’s famous Danube Promenade that provides an astonishing view of Buda Castle and Gellért Hill and you can also take a ride on the Budapest Eye Ferris wheel to enjoy the panorama of Budapest from the sky. If you are with your loved one you can place your love lock on the Lovers’ Tree near the Ferris wheel. No problem if you get hungry during the walk as in this area there are plenty of cafes and restaurants which fit all taste and budget. You can have a budget meal in Hungary’s first McDonald’s on Vaci street or a bit more pricy one in Budapest Hard Rock Café on Vörösmarthy square and a glass of wine in St Andrea wine and sky bar on the top of the same building. Those with a sweet tooth can have a cake in the famous Gerbaud Cafe or a Somlói Galuska, the traditional Hungarian sponge cake in Jégbüfe Confectionary near the elegant Parisian Court and Klotild Palaces. You will hardly resist doing some shopping on Vaci street and Fashion street featuring the world’s most fabulous designer labels and dozens of souvenir shops.

The 40-meter tall Liberation monument was erected in 1947, to commemorate the Soviet liberation of Hungary which ended WWII and also marked the beginning of the communist rule. After the fall of communism in 1989, the Soviet symbols were removed from the monument, and it was renamed Liberty Statue.

Liberty Statue upon Gellert hill, is one of the most well known landmarks of Budapest, and a dominant feature of its cityscape. It is one of the very few sta...

The fortress was built in 1854 by the Austrian general Haynau after crushing the Hungarian War of Independence in 1849. Following the Compromise with Austria in 1867, its demolition was on the agenda but the city had no money to pull it down and eventually stayed.

While the statue of the genius holding a palm leaf, is the symbol of Liberty, the fortress behind it, was the symbol of Tyranny. The Citadel on the top of Gh...

Gellért Hill Hiking Tour
Well, we are a scooter tour and rental company, however, sometimes we encourage our guests to do some walks, and in the case of Gellert hill, we definitely recommend it. Gellért Hill is one of the natural wonders of Budapest, a national park with spectacular views and great attractions. The best way to discover the hill is to take a hike on the series of hiking trails that run across the hill’s most picturesque points and great attractions. I won’t lie, hiking requires some extra power but really worth it. Besides the hilltop which is accessible by scooter, there are a number of great lookouts on the hill which can only be reached on foot! With our suggested hiking tour, you can discover the hill’s most picturesque points in about 2 hours. If you are doing the tour with your loved one don’t forget to take also a bottle of sparkling wine as Gellert hill is also one of the most romantic spots in Budapest.
Now take a virtual hiking tour on Gellert hill and watch also our videos about the Citadel and Liberty Statue.

Visiting the Citadel during its reconstruction.
The Citadel and the adjacent Liberty Statue located on the hilltop are undergoing reconstruction until the end of 2023 and will be closed for visitors, however, the lookout terrace in front of the Citadel will remain open but it is only reachable via the hiking trail. It is approximately 5 min walk from the Citadel parking lot but you will have to climb a few stairs as well. The parking lot is still accessible and despite it is officially closed, with a scooter you can always find places to park nearby. The Circle Lookout near the parking lot will also remain open for visitors. You can also visit the Philosopers’ Garden, a beautiful park with a great view on the western side of the hill, which is also accessible by scooter. Despite Liberty Statue is closed for visitors, if you choose hiking you will be able to go very close to it and have a look across the iron fence. There will be some extra walk due to the reconstruction but not that much and I am sure you will still enjoy it very much!
