[ MODEL OF THE DAY ] Elegantan dizajn i luksuzan interijer zasigurno su nešto što privlači našu pažnju. Poznati Volkswagenov Karmann Ghia svojim talijanskim dizajnom donosi najbolje od sportskih automobila i zasigurno nije iznimka od prethodno spomenutog pravila.
U kolovozu 1957.

[ MODEL OF THE DAY ] Sleek design and elegant interior are definitely something that makes a true eye-catcher on the road. The famous Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, with its Italian sports car design combined with a slightly widened Beetle floorpan, is no exception to the rule.
The Type 14 debuted at the October 1953 Paris Auto Show as a styling concept by Ghia, and the first one was manufactured in August 1955 in Osnabrück, Germany. Public reaction to the Type 14 exceeded expectations what then resulted with more than 10,000 vehicles sold in the first year of production.
In August 1957, Volkswagen introduced a convertible version of the Karmann Ghia.
More changes came in 1961 including wider and finned front grilles, taller and more rounded rear taillights and headlights relocated to a higher position.
In September 1961 a brand new VW 1500 Karmann Ghia known as Type 34 was introduced. Until it was replaced by the VW-Porsche 914, it was the most expensive and luxurious passenger car VW manufactured in the 1960s — at the time costing twice as much as a Beetle in many markets. Even today these historic Volkswagens are as rare as a Bugatti and as expensive as a classic Porsche.
The last Karmann Ghia went off the assembly line in 1974.
