This is the all-new Polestar 4, and no, your eyes don't deceive you: it really doesn't have a rear window, instead relying solely on a digital rear-view mirror for visibility. Polestar calls the 4 an SUV coupe, but, to our eyes, it looks more like a very slightly lifted sedan with some funky styling elements. The 4 will arrive with a maximum of 544 horsepower and 506 lb.-ft. of torque, shooting it from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, and Polestar is targeting a range of over 300 miles for the less powerful, single-motor Long Range model. Inside, in a move that should surprise absolutely no one, the minimalist cabin is dominated by a 15.4-inch touchscreen and features the latest in driver assistance technology. Polestar anticipates a $60,000 starting price when the 4 hits the road sometime next year. Are you a fan?

Looking nearly ready for production, here is the stunningly gorgeous Concept in this intense Searing Orange Magma paint color. While technically still a concept, expect to see the regular adopt this updated front end styling whenever the refreshed model is shown, likely for the 2025 model year. The concept car rides on this gorgeous 23” wheels and has that sleek coupe-like roofline from other “coupified” SUV’s. Under the hood, tells us it’s powered by the 3.5L V6 engine, but we’re not sure if it’s the same twin-turbo unit from the , or the turbo/supercharger unit from the flagship G90. The interior has a 2+2 seating configuration with carbon-fiber racing style bucket seats and a similar dash design to the current model. No pricing or specs unit, but we expect this to be more expensive than the regular GV80!

Fictional design proposal for Hydrogen-Electric Gran Turismo by Radovan Varićak

"The stylistic theme goes back to beginning to the 60s 350GT/Miura period fluid softness, with the 70s Countach hard geometry evoked only in detailing. There are also Marzal/ Espada references, in the front intake, side/rear air outlets and rear diffuser. The overall shape is a simplemonovolume, somewhat less rigid than the 1978 Lancia Sibilo, while the entire design is an undisguised homage to the Bertone-Gandini era."

Kia NOVO (KND-9) Concept (2015)

Kia unveiled the new generation Kia K5 (also called Optima) at the Seoul AutoShow, the brand also showcased the Concept Car Kia Novo. This mid-size sedan showcases the future look of Kia's compact cars.

Taking its name from the Latin "novatus" (meaning renewed or invigorated), the Kia Novo concept is aimed at modern urbanites with stressful jobs and hectic schedules. Interpreted by Kia's designers, the name "Novo" represents the concept of making something new and fresh.

Novo establishes a calm and focused environment in which drivers can refresh and rejuvenate as they transition from one lifetime commitment to another.

The Novo's sharply creased bodywork gives the car a clean, modern appearance when viewed from the side, with strong lines on the aluminum doors, skirts and air vents. Rear hinged doors complete the appearance of the car's striking profile, with slim center door handles that run flush with the finely sculpted aluminum wing mirrors.

Novo is powered by Kia's latest high-tech production engine to match its dynamic appearance. A 1.6-liter "Kappa" turbo gasoline engine, direct injection (T-GDI), was paired with a DCT gearbox, with 7 speeds and front-wheel drive.

VinFast VF8
VinFast is just entering the scene here in the U.S., so at this point we have little to no frame of reference as to how its vehicles will perform in our testing or in the hands of consumers. Here's what we do know: VinFast has made a statement of intention with the VF 8's bold, Pininfarina-penned design. The VF 8 is approximately the same size as a Ford Edge. It wears a smooth grille indicating that it's an EV and has LED accent lighting that spans the front fascia. The interior is stylish and minimalistic, with two-tone materials and push-button shifters integrated into the center console. Otherwise, details about the crossover's underpinnings are scarce.

Subaru Solterra Subaru of America, Inc.
The Solterra is a good first effort for Subaru's first electric vehicle. Subaru succeeds in building something that mostly feels like a normal SUV but just happens to be electric, and we like that with 8.3 inches of ground clearance, it's more capable away from pavement than most other electric crossovers. That capability helps retain Subaru's brand identity, too, and our limited experience with the Solterra off-road backed up the company's claims.

In terms of performance, the Solterra doesn't feel as quick or responsive around town than some of its competitors, but we don't imagine many buyers will mind. Ride quality is a strong point, as the SUV irons out lumpy roads without sacrificing the body control required to keep passengers from feeling car sick. That suspension helps mask the EV's weight, too. The steering is underwhelming, though, with little to no feel.

The 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray is a 655 horsepower, all-wheel-drive electrified take on America's iconic sports car. With an electric motor driving the front axle and the Stingray's V8 driving the rear, the E-Ray produces 637 lb.-ft. of torque and will do 0-60 in just 2.5 seconds. It's also got distinctive styling, with a wider body than the standard Stingray, body-colored accents, and unique wheels. Pricing kicks off at $104,295 – dangerously close to Z06 territory.⁠

Chevrolet Bolt EV
The Chevrolet Bolt EV was once an industry leader in eco-friendly commuting. It's at the forefront once more—but this time it's not for technology, it's for price.

The 2023 Bolt EV sees a price cut of $5,900, which comes on the heels of a significant reduction last year. Since 2021, the MSRP of the Bolt EV has fallen by nearly $11,000. It's now the cheapest EV on sale for the American market, undercutting the rival Nissan Leaf.

That's good news for the Bolt, which was starting to get lost in a growing field of increasingly innovative EVs. The Bolt won our Car of the Year award in 2017, earning praise for its combination of range and value. But in 2022, the refreshed Bolt failed to advance to the finalist round thanks to its aging architecture and mediocre materials for the price.

Those flaws are much easier to swallow at a price point well south of $30,000, though. There's still a lot to like, too, as the Bolt remains efficient, fun to drive, and impressively practical for its size. Its styling may not be for everyone, but the Bolt EV is the closest thing we have to an electric car for the masses.

Nissan LEAF
In some important ways, the second-generation Leaf corrected missteps Nissan made with the first generation. Exterior styling has evolved to be more sophisticated as well as communicate Nissan's design language. With more power (148 hp versus the old model's 110), it's quicker and more responsive than previously. The Leaf also stops from 60 mph to a standstill in a shorter distance than many of its competitors, and its interior is satisfyingly quiet.

Like the first gen, however, the second gen has range shortcomings that are exacerbated by how cheap the Leaf feels, especially against EV segment rivals like the Tesla Model 3 and to a lesser degree the Chevy Bolt. An entry-level 2021 Model 3 RWD Standard has a total range of 263 miles, and both Long Range and Performance variants can go over 300 miles on a full charge, whereas the Leaf with the greatest range is the Leaf Plus at 226 miles. The 2022 Bolt splits the difference, but with 259 miles of range, it can still travel farther than the longest-range Leaf.

We wish range was our only gripe, but it's not. The transition from the Leaf's e-pedal to normal friction braking is rough. Its front seats feel like padded barstools, and because of a low rear hip-point and high floor, the rear seats are uncomfortable to sit in.

Like most modern EVs, the Leaf's saving grace might be its commendable value, reflected in the 2021 model's Excellent Five-Year Cost to Own ratings at every trim level as determined by our partners at IntelliChoice. That value became more compelling when Nissan announced the 2022 model has a lower MSRP than the model that preceded it, in some cases dropping more than $6,000 from the sticker price. A fully loaded Leaf Plus SL now comes in under $40,000 (before incentives).
