Do you really believe everything you see on Instagram?
Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more videos of stewardesses showing “what it’s really like” to work on yachts.
As a recruiter, I also hear the other side of the story—from captains, management companies, and yacht owners.
One thing that concerns me is how normal it has become to film and photograph every corner of a yacht. In reality, respecting a client’s privacy and protecting the yacht’s interior is a fundamental part of being a professional crew member. Sharing those spaces publicly is often discouraged—and in many cases, completely unacceptable.
The same goes for the glamorous lifestyle portrayed online. Carefully staged photos and videos can create unrealistic expectations for people entering the industry, while overlooking the professionalism, discretion, hard work, and long hours that the job actually requires.
Social media can be inspiring, but it rarely tells the whole story.
