Do you really believe everything you see on Instagram?

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more videos of stewardesses showing “what it’s really like” to work on yachts.

As a recruiter, I also hear the other side of the story—from captains, management companies, and yacht owners.

One thing that concerns me is how normal it has become to film and photograph every corner of a yacht. In reality, respecting a client’s privacy and protecting the yacht’s interior is a fundamental part of being a professional crew member. Sharing those spaces publicly is often discouraged—and in many cases, completely unacceptable.

The same goes for the glamorous lifestyle portrayed online. Carefully staged photos and videos can create unrealistic expectations for people entering the industry, while overlooking the professionalism, discretion, hard work, and long hours that the job actually requires.

Social media can be inspiring, but it rarely tells the whole story.

So I’m curious… do you really believe everything you see about yachting on Instagram? 👇

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

How to Be a Solo Stew ⚓️

Being a Solo Stewardess means wearing many hats. From creating unforgettable guest experiences to keeping every detail of the interior flawless, you’re the heart of the yacht’s service.

It takes organisation, confidence, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure—but it’s one of the most rewarding roles in yachting.

💬 Question for experienced solo stews:
What do you enjoy most about being a Solo Stewardess? Share your favourite part in the comments! 👇

Why References Matter More Than Ever 🚤

Inspired by real situations we’ve come across during recruitment, we wanted to share a few insights.

Many candidates believe that having a written reference is enough. In reality, that’s only the beginning.

As recruiters, we often become detectives. We verify employment dates, contact captains and crew, compare references with CVs, and look for consistency. Small details that seem insignificant can quickly raise questions.

A strong reference isn’t just a document—it’s credibility. And credibility is often what gets you hired.

Swipe through our 5 simple rules to make sure your references work for you, not against you.

At Yacht Maritime, every candidate deserves a fair opportunity, but honesty, consistency, and professionalism will always stand out.
