Olympic Marine was founded in Lavrio, under the initial name of Olympic Yachts, as the Greek shipbuilder of reference for sailboats and other vessels in reinforced composite. By the mid-70s, the yard had already achieved important milestones, carrying out successful projects across its wide offering.
• Modern buildings of 8,750 m² were built to facilitate construction, accompanied by corresponding updates to the machinery and production methodology.
• The yard’s range earned a reputation among the Greek and the international markets.
• Models including the Olympic 33, the Olympic 47, the Carter range and many more are still considered to be the best of their kind.
• Fishing boats, hundreds of lifeboats, and even patrol boats for the Greek Coast Guard were built.
• A repair unit was established, with technology never before accessible in Greece. In 2019, Dream, a 107m motoryacht built by Olympic Marine team was launched and delivered. Omikron Yachts benefits from all the facilities and services of Olympic Marine and it is a privately owned, fully equipped and staffed shipbuilding unit within the premises of its parent company, the only marina in Attica that offers comprehensive services for the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of yachts up to and exceeding 100m. The modern unit includes 4 buildings totaling 9,000 m² of state-of-the-art infrastructure. The permanent staff of 35 specialised employees, a host of external specialised associates and an award-winning team of naval architects and engineers are on-call, ready to resolve any issue an owner may have, from touch-ups to complete restoration and retrofitting. As the naval architects, designers, and engineers all work on site, works can be carried out without requiring the owner to be physically present. CAPACITY
Amidst its constant development, the yard installed a new travel lift with lifting capacity of 350t, which operates in a new 12.5m wide dock. At the same time, the carpentry department adopted CNC machines, capable of completely constructing the interiors for the nautical context and beyond, while a special branch for 3D Design Engineering is already in operation, conducting Stress Analysis calculation and simulation. The yard’s offer is as advanced as it is broad, with forward-looking investments such as the specially designed Advanced Composite Studio to enhance the strength and lightness of the primary material with carbon fibre and vacuum infusion.
107m M/Y DREAM
Quickly to take advantage of the shipyard’s enhanced capacity, the technical department of Olympic Marine undertook the design, engineering, project planning, procurement and build of a 107m yacht named Dream. The construction process was surveyed by DNV/ GL and Dream would be one of the first superyachts fully compliant to SOLAS passenger ship regulations for up to 36 passengers. A team of in-house Naval Architects, Engineers and Captains were responsible for the build, which was carried out by up to 180 steel workers, welders, painters, carpenters, electricians and fitters. The bow and stern were elongated by 15m together, while the superstructure was completely rebuilt, using 600 tonnes of steel and aluminium in total. State of the art machinery systems were ordered and installed onboard including zero speed stabilizers. The interior sub-constructions, insulation and flexible mounting were all engineered, designed, and produced in house to minimize noise and vibration inside the accommodations. A template system was used to build the interior cladding. The installation of all the interiors, from bare steel to wood veneer, was also handled in house. Dream won her category at the 2019 World Superyacht Awards, a great achievement considering that the most reputable superyacht builders around the world were competing. Dream also featured on all the major yacht publications, making the cover of Boat International’s February 2019 issue. OMIKRON YACHTS’ FIRST PROJECT: OT60
The first model to be produced under the Omikron Yachts brand is the OT60, designed to sail without sails and modernize the Mediterranean experience. Drawing on the skills and facilities of a yard that has built more than 2000 sailing yachts over the years and conducted significant refits on yachts up to and exceeding 100m, the OT60 is highly engineered, making use of advanced methodology to minimize weight, guarantee stability and maximize efficiency. The specially designed Eco-Cruise hull designed by Juan-K, carbon fibre construction and twin compact 150hp or 250hp engines create the archetypal calm cruiser with a 1000nm range at 12kn, consuming just 1.25l/nm and thus encouraging a more peaceful pace of travel. Accordingly, the living areas on board, developed by Lorenzo Argento for the layout and Ciarmoli Queda Studio for the interior design, are intended to relish the journey and make the sea a second home. The overall design is an adaptation to the local seas and the island-going lifestyle its visitors lead – in aesthetic as well as pace of travel. Three and four cabin layouts are available, always centered on the double-deck galley and dining annex, which fills with light from the large opening windows. Each vessel is realized on site, from the architecture to the design, the engineering, the electrics and the cabinetry.
54m S/Y ARGO54
In a new 2,000m² building, there is a custom super sailing yacht build under way. Argo54 is a 177ft (54 m) aluminum hull, designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian in cooperation with Rob Doyle. Mark Whitely developed the interior style, while the Omikron Technical Office managed the project, as they do all the yard’s builds, from concept development to systems engineering. The concept of the boat was developed to provide to the market an eco-friendly option in the size-class, while introducing racing sailboat technology to the large cruiser market. Behind Argo54’s superyacht comfort and ability to exceed 20kn sailing are a state-of-the-art hull and sail design with super light construction. The diesel electric propulsion can even capture energy while sailing, enabling zero-emission travel. Operation of Argo54 is not only efficient, but also safe and convenient with state-of-the-art electronics and sail control systems.
