As soon as the rains are over (after July), we'll completely forget about this dawn's heavy rains. Wanna bet ?
On July 4, 1995, Accra experienced one of the worst floods in its history after record-breaking overnight rainfall overwhelmed the city's drainage system - claiming dozens of lives, displaced over 200,000 people, destroying homes and infrastructure.
On June 3rd 2015, Ghana experienced the tragic "twin disaster" in Accra, where severe, continuous rainfall caused catastrophic flash floods that overwhelmed the city - resulting in the massive explosion and fire eruption at a Goil fuel station at the Nkrumah Circle, claiming over 150 lives.
And we just don't understand why almost every drainage in front of the prime commercial properties (occupied by banks, blue chip companies, etc) in Accra are choked, or sometimes deliberately sealed off.
And for those who build in the water ways or without valid building permit, is everything correct upstairs?
Are we correct at all as a people?
