A message to all of my past learners.
Sadly, I need to address something unpleasant that has been happening on social media.
A page has been copying celebratory driving test pass photos from driving instructors’ pages and reposting images of young women wearing gym leggings or other fitted clothing. The page appears to exist purely to objectify women, and many of the comments left on these posts have been completely inappropriate.
I want to make one thing absolutely clear – there is nothing wrong with how these young women chose to dress. They were simply celebrating an incredible achievement. The problem isn’t the clothing or the photographs – it’s the people who have chosen to take those images and objectify them.
The driving instructor community has been working together to report every post we come across, particularly where images of under-18s have been used. The page was taken down, but unfortunately it has since reappeared.
Fortunately, I never posted photos of pupils, so be assured that no one I taught was targeted.
It is incredibly disappointing that something intended to celebrate such a proud milestone can be exploited in this way. All learners deserve to have their achievements celebrated with dignity and respect.
Please be vigilant and report anything unpleasant to Facebook. The site in question was called "pass pants driving school", but may be renamed by now.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
