🏏 ANNUAL MEMORIAL CRICKET MATCH

Preparations are well underway for this year’s Annual Memorial Cricket Match, taking place on:

📅 Sunday 30 August
⏰ From 12 noon onwards

Traditionally, the match has been played between a current Slingsby Cricket Club XI and the Dave Calvert XI, made up of former players and people who knew Dave, the much-missed former chairman of Slingsby Sports Club.

Following the sad loss of former player Pete Stark earlier this year, the event will also remember Pete and will take on a new format—a four-team tournament featuring:

🏏 Hovingham CC XI
🏏 Pete Stark XI

Damian previously played for Slingsby alongside Pete and Pete’s brother, Chris, so there is one question we have to ask…

🔥 IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY NOTICE 🔥

Due to the exceptionally dry conditions and increased risk of wildfires, we ask all guests to take extreme care when using BBQs.

As announced this afternoon, disposable BBQs have been temporarily banned from sale over fears they pose a "significant risk to the public" as drought and heatwave conditions continue to grip the UK

If using an electric or gas BBQ, please ensure it is raised safely off the ground, kept well away from grass, caravans, awnings and other flammable materials, and never left unattended.

Campfires and fire pits are not allowed anywhere on the park.

🌘 Do you remember where you were for the 1999 solar eclipse?

Tonight, we’ll get another chance to see the moon pass in front of the sun, with up to 95% of the sun covered here in the UK.

According to BBC Yorkshire, the eclipse will begin at around 6.12–6.19pm, reaching its peak about an hour later, before finishing shortly after 8pm. 🌞🌑

It’s got us thinking back to the last one - 11th August 1999. I was working at Crow’s Nest Caravan Park at the time, celebrating my birthday and remember standing at the top of the drive, in front of the sales fleet, watching the eclipse with my free glasses from the newspaper.

Funny how certain moments stick in your memory.

If you're looking for a great day out during your holiday, Ryedale Show takes place on Tuesday 28th July at Duncombe Park, Helmsley.

One of North Yorkshire's best-loved agricultural shows, it's a fantastic celebration of the countryside with livestock, local food and drink, shopping, crafts, countryside displays and entertainment for all ages.

Whether you've visited before or it'll be your first time, it's a wonderful way to experience a traditional Yorkshire agricultural show.
