In 2004 a well known motoring motoring personality famously drove a Discovery 3 up a mountain in Scotland, then, maybe more famously left the top of the Scottish mountain in a helicopter, with the keys for the Discovery in his pocket, leaving the crew and the Discovery stranded on the mountain.
Fast forward 22 years, and I get a picture sent to me of a vehicle for sale, I instantly knew what it was and started to get excited of what was to come.
A good friend / customer or ours purchased the Top Gear Discovery 3 and we were privileged to have the pleasure of recommissioning it back to its former glory.
After a good sit down and chat with John, it was decided that we would fully commit to this, and full credit to John, he managed to source a brand new / old stock Genuine nudge bar, and the correct period winch and genuine winch tray to add the finishing touches to our masterpeice.
When Top Gear had finished the episode, CKN went back to Land Rover and was put back to standard form, which is how we found it, but John was keen for it to be exactly how it was for the Top Gear feature so we were happy to ablidge 🫡
The guys at Devon 4x4 did a lovely job of recommissioning the Warn winch for us, whilst we focused on rebuilding the car, I even dusted off my own overals for this and got stuck in too, as we were all excited to be a part of the story.
John has big plans for CKN, and the first of which is a trip back up north to go and visit a certain Scottish Mountain, and many other landmarks that featured in the episode.
We, either us, or John will be taking CKN to as many Land Rover shows as we can next year, so keep an eye out for it, and come for a chat about its rebuild.
This has been a highlight of my 30+ Years of working on Land Rovers, and everyone on the team loved been a part of the story, and I hope the workmanship shows how much we enjoyed it.
