Finally got round to removing the running boards and fabricating up some tubular side bars on my own class11 inspired bug called "swampy"
They are similar style to the baja ones you can buy but a slightly different shape and strong enough to stand on..one finished they were cleaned up,epoxyed and then coated in black raptor to match the other parts.

Another job on Hattys bay was heating..we all know original heating isn't great at the best of times,especially in a bay..so we picked up a 2kw Chinese diesel heater.and installed it and plumbed in to the original dash ducting meaning defrost capability before leaving the house with the remote key fob.and unbelievable heating..its a great upgrade,only thing to do will be a new tank which will be fabricate soon..

Sorry for radio silence,we've been oh so very busy.so we'll try and upload a fair amount in coming days..
Here's a job from recently,a replacement sliding door for Hattys late bay..it has already been repaired so we bare metalled it,filled,epoxyed and primed and then top coated in brilliant orange for the van.also fitted a new window seal at the same time.

So, my brother now has a race car that we are building up and one of the things is rear lights, now, much to many peoples hates of them, we've chosen to run the same as on Miss White, as you see in the last picture.. these lights are great as they are very lightweight, compact and can be very bright but the major flaw is mounting them flush to a beetle wing makes them not very bright for following vehicles.. so I came up with a solution, I have also made a set for miss white.. these still need cleaning up and final trimming but really pleased, they will be finished off in body colour and with a rubber seal like a standard light housing..

Its something small but very satisfying for my own personal skill reasons.. being made from flat Ali and hand rolled, shaped and tig welded together..

Couple of weeks ago we had a good friend Sam lindsay bring his trials rail over for a little work..making some new resr shock upper mounts to accommodate his new monster avo coilover shocks..this is to help gain extra ground clearance and stiffen the back up a little to get a bit more traction on the muddy hills of classic trials..you can see the original mounts above in some of the pictures..he has already been out testing has seen a vast improvement and has gained easily 4" extra clearance..

So,here's the installment of the work carried out on jamie smith's "Jaffa dub" bug he entrusted us with for work over the last 6 weeks..tear apart,assess and repair necessary metalwork before the car goes for its next stage of transformation to Jim Smith at Cotsweld Race Cars for a full chromoly roll cage..lots of metalwork repairs,de trimmed,side scoops fitted and painted,full custom removable rear end made including dzus fastners on the oversize rear wings,modified Type 3 engine bar to oil filter mount..and then all 4 wings prepped,primed and then painted in body colour..along with the trim holes and repairs blended in too..a lot of late nights and long hours to get this done in a very tight schedule(my own fault with other jobs) but we got it done and looking forward to seeing it after its cage and built up..

The junkyard 1600 turbo..still some fine tuning to do in a car but the longblock is built up entirely from bits that were destined for the scrap pile..the only new things on the longblock is a gasket set,the knocking noise was an old I junction timing pin on the flywheel catching the case.so this is now been sorted..this was done just to run and get the turbo setup tuned in before building a proper motor..this is going in jacks patina 70

So we've been a bit quiet on here recently as we've had a lot on..but I did want to share this as I'm really pleased with these...after wanting to have some off road style mirrors for our own class 11 styled Trials car..lots of research proved that the ones on the market currently were a lot of money,and also meant you'd lose the function of your 1/4 Lights,and as every vw owner knows,thats your air con..so we thought we'd have a crack and fabricate our own..slightly bigger than the others on the market but as one of the pictures show,full use of 1/4 still which was the reason I made them to start with..so we are currently stock piling materials to build and sell these as a kit..

Kits include-
2 mirror arms
2 5" Black round mirrors
Pack of black headed rivets to secure to the vehicle.

The prices are
£160 kit,powdercoated satin black arms
£120 kit,raw arms
That also includes postage within the UK.

These are currently designed to fit 66 onwards doors with the larger windows but we will look into trying them on earlier cars and maybe even with led spotlights mounts too.

So we went out to Nathan's last weekend to help him fix a knocking noise on the front of his van..turns out he had a broken spring..so a full fresh set of springs and new upper ball joint on drivers side too.
