And Now For Something A Little Different…

Away from fixing cars, vans and minibuses, we thought it might be a nice change to talk about what we do for our wonderful staff at TR Autos.

After COVID and the working from home directive took so many out of the workplace environment Kayleigh started to think about ways we could improve the work/life balance for the staff given that working from home wasn’t an option for our type of business.

With many hours planning and discussing she devised a 4 day working week plan meaning some staff would get a Monday off and some would get a Friday off. This would also involve us shutting between 13.00 & 14.00 for ‘Lunch Club’.

Everyday we cook for team, we have a wide range of meals, pasta bakes, roast dinners, toad in the hole etc. Sitting together and eating is really important for bonding, relaxing and working effectively as a team.

Maintaining Older Saabs…

As we have shown before, we cater for the older Saabs and have done for over 20 years! There is still a 99 or c900 or two here at TR Autos most weeks of the year which is still a pleasure.

The one featured below was a much loved example of the rare 900i ‘Aero’ which was available in the final year of the classic 900. This one required repairs to the driveshaft tunnels amongst other work. Another stunning car that’s a credit to its owner.

Keeping Volvos Serviced!

As well as keeping Volvos well serviced, we also make sure to carry out the (all too often) overlooked transmissions serviced too.

The XC60 featured below came into to us with a hard shifting issue but no fault codes. Being well experienced with the Volvo TF-80SC 6 speed transmission we made sure the oil was correctly changed, including bleeding the system as well as updating the softwares in the TCM via VIDA/DICE and resetting the counters and adaptations.

The result… a smoothly operating transmission that the customer can now have confidence in.

It’s Been A While!

Firstly we must apologise for the lack of posts recently, there has been lots going on behind the scenes at TR Autos with changes being made in order to keep the business moving in the right direction.

The lads and lady in the workshop have been busy fixing all manner of vehicles with the usual wide array of faults. Sometimes we work on the rare cars and sometimes the unusual cars but sometimes they come together and you get historic vehicles like the one pictured below, a 1939 MG WA.

The days can certainly be diverse at TR Autos, you can be washing and cleaning an oil filter on the 1939 MG and then installing software in the latest Volvo!

Early Saab 900’s…

The first few years of the Saab 900 were quite unique in many ways, some without power steering, cars with the mighty B20 Turbo engine from the 99T, different interiors and funky colours set them apart from the later cars.

Sadly there are few survivors now, poor steel used in production, the advent of single stage metallic paint and the customers desires for 16v turbos meant cars went often to an early grave.

Cars like the one below are a testament to the owners that keep them alive and in regular use, it’s always great when a long time owner wants to have cars like these repaired. This one was in for an engine bay rust repair and repaint, courtesy of our friends at mitchell_motors_chard, after we carried out all of the necessary mechanical work Ben worked his magic and repaired the areas beautifully and repainted it in the correct aquamarine blue.

Once work was completed a beautiful valet including ceramic coating carried out by Mark Immaculate Reflection - Valeting & Detailing.

The last step was a Dyno health check to make sure the car was running well at Performance Vehicle Engineering - PVE - Mapping, Remapping & Dyno.

We are very lucky to work with so many excellent local businesses helping us keep cars on the road.

A Blast From The Italian Past…

The mighty Lancia Thema was always a rare sight on UK roads, especially the 8:32 model, powered by a Ferrari / Lancia V8 32 valve engine. And what a noise it makes!

Interestingly, the ‘Tipo Quattro’ platform (or type 4 in English) is also shared with the SAAB 9000, Fiat Croma and Alfa 164.

This one was in with us to sort out poor starting and running due to failed fuel pressure from the Bosch KE-Jetronic system.

All sorted and back with the customer, serviced with converted A/C to R143a it can now be enjoyed this summer, making glorious noises! ☀️

What An Epic Saturday!

Yesterday we spent the day at goodwoodmotorcircuit for the fantastic retroridesofficial Weekender Event. Possibly one of the most diverse collections of cars we have ever seen at an event, everything from Racing Cars, Enthusiasts Cars, Low Riders, Yanks, it was truly amazing to see so much in one place both on and off track.

For us the French cars were particularly special, especially the Clio V6 & the R5 Turbo 2.

Another Birthday & A Very Special Announcement! 🎈🎂🥳

Our very own W***y Boy turned 20 years old this week and also finished his apprenticeship, passing with Distinction. He is one of the only learners to do that in the last 3 years! We are immensely proud of him and his achievements, especially his attitude towards learning, which shows in the result above!

At TR Autos we have been big supporters of the apprenticeship scheme having had learners for the last 7 years!

Still Fixing Saabs!

As the years go on from the end of production of Saab Automobiles less and less are seen in ‘regular traffic’ and most models are falling into ‘enthusiast status’ now, which has meant that many of the specialist garages that once serviced the marque have diversified or sadly closed. Over the years we have seen many close and much of the specialist literature, knowledge and tooling lost. We are very lucky to still be exceptionally well set up to repair Saab Cars and hope to continue to have the support of owners of this fantastic marque.
