Today I had the pleasure of getting my friend’s son, Harry Scaysbrook, started on his semi-intensive course - 6 hour stint - not for the weak 🚗💨

Harry came to me with some basic road knowledge and experience, mainly from driving on country roads, so I got him straight to work and into Worksop town! 👊🏼

And at 26.5°C, it was no joke! 🥵😂
But we were absolutely on fire! 🔥

We worked on lanes, road positioning, crossroads with traffic lights, hills, handbrake control, pulling up and moving off, securing the car and, most importantly, building those consistent driving routines.

Then we hit the parking… 🅿️

Forward bay parking
Reverse bay parking
Parallel parking

All three types of parking, both sides, in ONE session! 👏🏼🔥

Harry worked hard, listened to the feedback and adapted really well.

Today was about putting those foundations in place, building good habits and starting to develop the confidence and independence he’ll need to drive safely on his own.

We’ve got another 4 hours intensive tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to seeing that progress continue as Harry starts taking even more control behind the wheel.

Day 1 — what a start! 👊🏼🚗🔥

Today was a little different 💛🚗

After passing her test with me 2 years ago, Zoe Stokes was sadly involved in a serious accident that was no fault of her own. Whilst her driving ability never disappeared, her confidence on faster roads understandably took a knock. In fact, since the accident, she hadn’t felt able to drive on the motorway at all.

Knowing Zoe as well as I do, I also knew that if I gave her too much time to think about today’s lesson, her nerves might get the better of her. So there was no hanging around, I got her straight behind the wheel and we got to work from the moment we set off. Sometimes the hardest part is taking that first step, and today she absolutely smashed it.

We headed up and down the M1, north and south, practising joining and leaving via slip roads, lane discipline, overtaking safely and reading the traffic around us. It was never about whether Zoe could drive, I already knew she could. It was about rebuilding trust in herself and learning to drive confidently amongst other road users, even when they don’t always make the best decisions.

By the end of the lesson, while the nerves hadn’t completely disappeared, you could physically see Zoe beginning to relax behind the wheel. The grip on the steering wheel softened, the tension eased, the smiles were back, and she was driving on the motorway with a confidence she hadn’t felt since before her accident.

Confidence isn’t built in a single lesson, but today was a huge step in the right direction. Sometimes the biggest victory isn’t passing a test… it’s proving to yourself that you can do something you never thought you’d manage again.

As I always say… practice makes better. ❤️

Now for your next challenge, Zoe… you owe me that lunch date at Meadowhall. The only catch is that you’ll be driving us there! 😉☕🚗

I’m incredibly proud of you, Zoe. Thank you for trusting me to help you take this step. You’ve got this.

BIG LOVE

Another great lesson with Olivia Murdock today! 🚗💪

Today’s focus:

✅ Forward bay parking
✅ Reversing

We worked on observations, accuracy and control, and the progress throughout the lesson was fantastic.

No kerbs were harmed in the making of today’s lesson… the girls are taking over the car park! 😉💁‍♀️🚗

Five months after passing her driving test, Tilly Windle got back in touch because she had a very important journey to make tomorrow… a trip to Birmingham to see someone rather special. ❤️

Although she’d been driving independently, she’d never tackled the motorway on her own and wanted to build her confidence before setting off.

Girl code – Gemma to the rescue, I knew the assignment… I’ve gotcha, babe! 💙🚗

So this evening, after my long teaching day, we headed south towards East Midlands Airport and back — all on the motorway — giving Tilly plenty of real motorway experience.

Tonight we covered everything from joining and leaving via slip roads, lane discipline, safe overtaking, reading the road well ahead, maintaining safe following distances, driving confidently around HGVs, using motorway services, understanding smart motorways and SOS emergency areas, what to do in the event of a breakdown, and building the confidence needed to tackle a long motorway journey independently.

Passing your test is just the beginning. Sometimes all you need is a confidence boost before a big journey, and that’s exactly what tonight was about.

Have the best time Tilly drive safely, enjoy every mile, and I hope seeing your partner makes every mile of the journey worthwhile! 💙
