From 12 May, only you as the learner driver will be able to book and manage your car driving test.

This means your driving instructor won’t be allowed to do this for you.

With the weather improving and the clocks changing this weekend, spring is definitely upon us. This week we are raising awareness of the challenges motorcyclists face on our roads.

If your motorbike has been tucked away over winter and you’re planning to bring it out of hibernation, make sure to give it a thorough once‑over well before your first ride. A few simple checks can make all the difference in ensuring your bike is running properly and that you can enjoy a safe, smooth journey. Do your POWDER checks; Petrol, Oil, Water, Damage, Electrics, and Rubber.

We’re also urging all motorists to share the road responsibly. Please take extra care to look out for motorcyclists, especially near junctions and on rural roads where they can be harder to spot. A little more awareness from everyone helps keep all road users safe.

Get ready for the driving test booking rule changes. 🚗👇

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to make 2 changes to a practical car driving test booking.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping a test between 2 learners

If you’re an ADI, we’d encourage you to make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready to take it and in a location they can easily travel to.

❄️🚗 Driving in the Snow — Today’s Lessons!

We had a bit of fun today helping learners understand what real winter driving feels like and more importantly, the risks that come with it.

Snow looks harmless… until you try to brake, steer, or pull away like you normally would.

Today was a brilliant reminder of three big lessons:

1️⃣ Car control is everything

Snow shows you very quickly whether your inputs are smooth or rushed.

We worked on:

✔ gentle acceleration
✔ progressive braking
✔ steering with patience (not panic!)
✔ feeling the grip through the tyres

These skills don’t just help in winter they make you a better driver all year round.

2️⃣ Overconfidence is the real danger

Most problems on days like this come from drivers who think:

“I’ll be fine, I know what I’m doing.”

But confidence doesn’t give you traction.

Snow doesn’t care how experienced you are.

Even small mistakes can turn into big slides when the road is icy.

Today, my learners got to experience how different the car feels safely, calmly, and with guidance instead of finding out the hard way on a busy road.

3️⃣ Respect the conditions

We spoke a lot about:

• slowing everything down
• increasing following distance
• planning earlier
• predicting what other drivers might do
• avoiding sudden movements

Winter driving is all about respect for the weather, for the road, and for your own limitations.

Teaching these skills today was genuinely rewarding and seeing learners grow in confidence while understanding the dangers is exactly why these sessions matter.

Stay safe out there and remember:

Smooth, slow, steady and planning wins every snowy day. 🌨️🚗

Out of interest. Do you already use the Dutch Reach?

Ever heard of "dooring"? It is when a car door suddenly opens and a cyclist smashes straight into it – a nasty accident that is easily avoided.
The Dutch Reach is a very simple habit that saves lives:

As the driver (in the UK), use your LEFT hand to open the door.
This naturally turns your body and forces you to look over your shoulder.
Check your mirror and blind spot for cyclists, scooters or pedestrians.
All clear? Open slowly.

It is also in the Highway Code (Rule 239) and a great habit for passengers too (they also use their far hand).
