It seems hard to believe but some folk think that orange Hermetite is the answer to a leaking engine oil manifold. It isn’t, making sure the mating surfaces are in good order and using the correct gasket is the solution.

When storing your bike for a period of time make sure you switch off the petrol tap. Lucky for the owner of this bike he brought it to us to recommission and didn’t start or ride it. A flush of the engine and a full carburettor rebuild is on the list before returning it to a very fortunate customer.

The problem with leaving your bike standing for extended periods with modern fuels in the tank is not limited to machines with carburettors.

This is the fuel pump from a fuel injected bike that sits inside the tank out of sight and clearly demonstrates the consequence of not draining the tank before laying up the bike.
