🚨 MAJOR INCIDENT | A41 TRAILER FIRE – BURKE BROS RECOVERY 🚨
What started as a trailer fire on the A41 quickly developed into a major recovery and scene clearance operation. The type of incident where simply sending a recovery truck is nowhere near enough.
With the fire extinguished, what remained was a severely fire damaged trailer, a substantial amount of burnt and contaminated debris spread across the carriageway, and a road that needed to be made safe and reopened.
That’s when the real recovery operation began.
Burke Bros Recovery deployed a major incident response, with specialist crews and equipment working through the day and into the night. Heavy recovery vehicles, lorry loader cranes, grab lorries, plant and machinery, traffic management vehicles, skips and road sweeping equipment were brought together in one coordinated operation.
The scale of the scene can be seen in the photographs. The trailer had been devastated by fire which was fly tipped, leaving tonnes of burnt material that had to be carefully separated, lifted, loaded and removed from the highway.
Our Traffic Management team established a safe working area around the incident while recovery crews tackled the remains of the trailer. Specialist plant worked through the debris, grab equipment loaded waste for removal, and our heavy recovery team dealt with the fire damaged trailer itself.
As daylight disappeared, the operation continued under floodlights.
Heavy recovery. Scene clearance. Traffic management. Waste removal. Road sweeping. One operation.
Once the bulk of the wreckage had been removed, the job still wasn’t finished. The carriageway required an extensive final clean, with our road sweeper working across the affected area to remove the remaining debris and contamination and help return the road to a safe condition.
Incidents like this demonstrate exactly why major recovery is about far more than towing a vehicle away. It requires the right people, the right equipment and the ability to coordinate multiple specialist resources at short notice.
From a burnt out trailer and a carriageway buried beneath debris, through hours of recovery and clearance work, to a road ready to be handed back — Burke Bros Recovery remained on scene until the job was done.
