Little job in yesterday as the word is getting out I’m doing cars again!

Fiat 500 1.2 8v for cam belt & water pump! Was extremely over due! 2008 car that had never had its belt replaced before!! Remember most Fiat’s & Alfa’s are 72k or 5 years ie which ever comes sooner!!

Celebrating (modest) power

SD: We're rapidly closing in on the 40th anniversary of one of my favourite engines - the Fiat FIRE.

It may not be particularly powerful, but it is perhaps the very definition of 'sweet'. Attached to the right lightweight Italian car - a Fiat Seicento Sporting, perhaps, or the Lancia Y10 in which it debuted - it is a joy to keep in its power band, making the most of a well-sorted chassis to corner some characterful little Italian box-car on its doorhandles.

It's also groundbreaking and stylish. FIRE stands for Fully Integrated Robotised Engine - one of the first such powerplants to be fully assembled by robot for uniformity and reliability. And yet it's the design work of Rodolfo Bonetto.

Bonetto was a jazz drummer before he became an industrial designer, and this shows in the FIRE. Not only is it one of the most stylish small-car engines built - check out the rhomboid theme that extends from head to belt cover and even incorporates one of the most satisfyingly sleek oil filler caps ever devised - it also, appropriately for a drummer's creation, has an exquisite sense of timing about it. In 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 guise at least, the valves neatly avoid the pistons when they're at top dead centre. So you can drive them in a classically Italian manner - thrashing it all the way to the redline to make the most of its modest power - yet if a cambelt snaps, all you need is another cambelt, rather than another engine.

It replaced the Austin Seven unit as the control powerplant in the 750MC's Formula 750 - so future Chapmans and McLarens are building specials around it - and it's still being made, admittedly now in 1.4-litre twin-cam 16-valve guise, in which it powers everything from Jeeps to Abarth Fiats and even Tatuus Formula 4 racers.

One of the world's truly great engines, I just hope more people notice when it hits the big 4-0.

1999 V reg, 122,000 miles.

Full service history with stacks of bills including bill for new engine, turbo, clutch fitted.

This has been off the road for 7 years, was dry stored for 5 years & I bought it two years ago & have been carrying out work to it in my spare time get ready for sale.

New cam belt kit inc water pump fitted earlier this year, full service, new brakes all round, new tyres, wheels refurbished, Brembo’s have had all four bleed screws renewed, new rear wheel bearing.

Great condition for age.

People : he owns his own company must be doing ok !!!
Reality : haven’t taken a wage or Penny in weeks because everyone and every thing comes before you !!!

People : must be nice owning your own company come and go as you please
Reality : working 15-18 hrs per day 7 days a week unpaid , while your staff leave and go Home at a reasonable time !!

people : look at him driving around in a new truck
Reality : leased or financed not owned because buying cost too much and working 100 hrs a week to make sure it’s paid for !!

People : well you own the company so get someone else to do it !!
Reality : working hands on labour like everyone else , vat returns , payments , customer service , Marketing , project managing , stock taking , logistics , because if someone leaves who’s it left too , chances have to be few and far between ( but risks have to be taken to progress but who at the end is accountable ….. YOU ARE !!)

Owning a company takes sacrifice , most have no clue ! You give your soul to make your baby …. Your idea … your everything work!!!! To give a better life to your loved ones and leave something behind when your gone is what it’s all about , becoming something more !!!! Most days you want to give up , most days you feel the life has been drained from you and all you do is work for everyone else but yourself ……. Don’t be fooled in to thinking because someone owns a business it’s easy , they don’t get to go home at 5 after a shift and put work down , acting Normal at the end of the day around loved ones when your hanging in the balance or the day has beat you to beyond what a human should deal with is what we do

Respect to everyone running a company , trying to move forward and be something more ……. ITS HARD , ….. RESPECT TO YOU ALL 👊💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
