HKO | 1959 Series II
With the weekend approaching, it seemed the right time to share HKO: an open-topped Series II built for warm-weather driving and proper use.
HKO is a 1959 Series II 88", sourced through a regular supplier and sitting in the yard at Windsor Classics when her future owner spotted her while visiting the workshop. The connection was immediate. HKO is also the airport code for Hong Kong, where he lives and works.
The aim was to build a short wheelbase Series II with open-top character, upgraded drivability and enough comfort to take passengers along for the ride.
The work included a full nut and bolt rebuild, full engine, gearbox and differential rebuilds, a new wiring loom, paintwork in the original Welsh Grey, power steering, disc brakes all round, an overdrive gearbox, bespoke diamond-stitched black Nappa leather seating and the retention and restoration of the original Bakelite steering wheel.
A proper weekend Land Rover.
