Sterns and the Differences Between Them…

⚓️ Traditional Stern:

Small back deck, only 2-3 feet. Maximises internal cabin space, which is why liveaboards prefer them. Engine's housed inside (under counter or in an engine room), which keeps it protected but makes maintenance tighter. You're trading outdoor space for living space.

⚓️ Cruiser Stern:

Larger back deck, 4-8 feet. Room for several people to sit, stand, socialise. Engine's accessed through deck boards, making maintenance easier and less claustrophobic. The trade-off is slightly less internal cabin space. Better for people who want to use the back deck regularly.

⚓️ Semi-Traditional Stern:

The compromise. Cabin sides extend like a traditional stern but the roof ends like a cruiser, creating a small open deck area. You get a bit of both, with decent internal space and some outdoor usability. Good if you want balance rather than extremes.
Which one matters depends entirely on how you'll use the boat.
