🎉 Massive congratulations to Charlotte Houghton!
Passing her driving test in Preston with only 2 minor driving faults. What a result.
This one deserves more than the usual “well done, safe driving” post. Charlotte’s journey was not a quick lap around the block. It was long, challenging, and at times made me quietly check whether my life insurance was still valid.
Charlotte started from a very low level, with her confidence pretty much in ruins. But what she did have was willpower, determination, and a final goal in mind.
Lesson by lesson, she worked her way through. Small goals. Small wins. One step closer to independence every time.
And that is the real lesson here: when the big goal feels miles away, don’t stare at the mountain. Focus on the next step. Celebrate it. Let it carry you through the hard days.
Now, I’ll be honest… Charlotte kept me on my toes for quite a while. Between the countless attempted driving assassinations, she also kept trying to kill me with kindness.
Over our not-particularly-short learning journey — which sometimes felt more like a theme park full of thrill rides — we somehow reached the point where even I forgot which way was left and right.
But then something brilliant happened.
The same Charlotte who once made my nerves twitch at the sight of a junction became someone I would now trust in busy, multi-lane traffic. I’d probably be more nervous at that roundabout in Southport — yes, the one with the horses — than sitting next to Charlotte at a busy junction the day before Christmas.
Charlotte was somehow immune to several well-tested teaching techniques, which forced me to think way outside the box. I learned a lot through training her, and that is probably why I’m so proud of her today.
Charlotte, you didn’t just pass a test. You rebuilt your confidence, earned your independence, and became a fully competent, safe driver.
Special mention to Dave, Charlotte’s boss, who gave up his own time to help her gain invaluable road experience. Dave, you were my wingman — sharing the smiles and, occasionally, the pain. Thank you.

🎉 MASSIVE congratulations to Honor! 🎉
Passing her driving test today in Chorley with just 5 minor driving faults — what a result!

Normally this kind of post would be left to our social media team…
But not this one. This one had to come from me personally.

Honor came to Fast Pass Driving School after struggling with learning to drive for years. Three months later, she has done exactly what she set out to do — passed her test properly, confidently, and deservedly.

And honestly? This was not luck.

Honor’s success came from her attitude: her willingness to learn, her honesty, her fantastic communication, and her refusal to give up when things felt difficult.

She asked questions. Proper questions. Honest questions. Sometimes very detailed questions. And I hope she finally believes me now:

There is no such thing as a stupid question.
The only stupid question is the one you never ask.

Without disclosing any classified information, the real key was straightforward communication and trust. Early on, we realised we had a similar background, shared values, and a moral compass pointing in roughly the same direction. That opened the door to proper honesty, proper learning, and a very positive environment for both learner and instructor.

It also opened Pandora’s box… otherwise known as Honor’s sense of humour.

If you know her, you know.
If you don’t, you would not expect it.

Dark. Very dark. Darker than a black hole. Sharp enough to cut glass. The kind of humour that makes guardian angels sigh and quietly start filling in resignation paperwork.

But somehow, it still brightens your day.

Honor, your determination, communication, honesty, and “never give up” attitude got you here. You earned this and your Ice Cream too. You should be very proud.

I will genuinely miss our lessons — but it is time for you to hit the road on your own now.

Enjoy your freedom, stay safe, and have safe roads for life. 🚗💨
