🔧 AUDI TFSI RANDOM MISFIRES? IT MIGHT NOT BE THE HEAD GASKET...

This Audi TFSI arrived with:

⚠️ Multiple random cylinder misfires
⚠️ Coolant loss
⚠️ Spark plugs washed clean with coolant
⚠️ Failed coolant combustion test

At first glance, all the signs pointed towards a possible head gasket failure.

After further diagnosis:

✅ Compression test passed
✅ Borescope inspection showed no cylinder damage
✅ Cylinder sealing was good

The culprit?

• Failed charge air cooler (water-to-air intercooler)

The internal core had split, allowing coolant to enter the intake system and cylinders, causing misfires and symptoms almost identical to a blown head gasket.

As you can see from the photos, the charge cooler was heavily contaminated and leaking internally.

A failed charge cooler can sometimes trigger a positive combustion gas test in the coolant system and easily mislead diagnosis if the system isn't properly inspected.

✅ Always diagnose before condemning a head gasket.
