Recently, I had a BMW iX1 as a loan car while mine was in the garage. It wasn’t a customer vehicle or my own, but it was filthy by my standards. So I gave it a full Phantom Detailing Interior & Exterior Refresh — completely free. Why? Because the next people who borrow it deserve a clean car. It went back to BMW looking better than when it left the factory.
Why do I go the extra mile?
I only use safe, effective methods:
Citrus Pre-Wash & Snow Foam
Proper 2- or 3-bucket method (with a dedicated wheel bucket)
Premium products and materials
Hydrophobic protection to repel dirt and boost gloss
Most importantly, I never rush — every car gets the time it deserves.
A little education for car owners:
Beware of very cheap valeting packages (£15–£30 for a full inside & out in under an hour). No true professional can clean a car safely and thoroughly that quickly. Rushed jobs with cheap products often do more harm than good to your paintwork.
The same applies to paint correction. I’ve seen mobile detailers offering a “3-stage machine polish” for almost every vehicle, often completed in just a few hours.
Here’s the reality:
Most cars benefit from a single-stage polish (Enhancement Detail) — one pass with the right pad and compound to remove light swirls, scratches, and hazing.
Some need a multi-stage correction for deeper imperfections.
A true 3-stage polish is rarely necessary and is very labour-intensive. It typically involves heavy cutting, medium polishing, and a final jewelling stage. It should take two or three days, not a few hours.
Proper paint correction is a full-day job (8–12 hours depending on vehicle size and condition). It always starts with thorough decontamination (including a clay bar) — this step alone can take 3–4 hours.
Every machine polish removes a small amount of clear coat (typically 1–3 microns). With the average clear coat around 50 microns thick, over-polishing can eventually wear it down, leading to costly repairs. Most vehicles only need one or two proper corrections per year — especially when followed by a quality, long-lasting ceramic coating 🛡️ and regular maintenance washes.
I’m not here to bash other detailers — many great ones exist. But your car is one of your biggest investments. Buy cheap, pay twice.
