🚨 F80 M3 / F82 M4 OWNERS – CHECK YOUR REAR SUBFRAME BOLTS 🚨

A common issue we’re seeing more and more on F80 and F82 chassis cars is corrosion on the rear subframe mounting bolts.

Over time, water can become trapped around the original bolt and washer design, leading to heavy corrosion. In severe cases, the bolts can seize, weaken, or even snap during removal – turning what should be a straightforward job into a much bigger repair.

BMW have since released an updated bolt design featuring a revised washer arrangement to help prevent water retention and reduce the corrosion issues found on the original setup.

On this vehicle, we replaced the original rear subframe bolts with the latest BMW updated versions as preventative maintenance, helping protect the rear axle carrier mounting points for years to come.

If your BMW M3, M4, M2 Competition or any S55-powered car has developed a tapping noise when started from cold, there’s a high chance your exhaust camshaft alignment has moved out of specification. 👨🏻‍🔧

This is something we are seeing and repairing WEEKLY here at DCL Tuning using the genuine BMW alignment tools and genuine BMW gaskets. ✅

Typically, the tapping noise will disappear once the engine warms up, leading many owners to ignore it… but leaving this unattended can potentially lead to further engine damage over time. ⚠️

Our repair process includes:

This one came in for our Ultimate Engine Protection Package — a package we’ve become very busy with lately due to the amount of worn rod bearings and slipped crank hubs we’re seeing on S55-powered cars.
Our Ultimate Engine Protection Package includes:

F90 M5 came into us with an oil leak concern, and after carrying out a full inspection we traced the issue back to the front differential output shaft seal. 👨‍🔧

We removed the driveshaft and replaced the leaking output shaft fl**ge seal using a genuine BMW seal to ensure a proper long-term repair. ✅

While the vehicle was apart, we also drained the front differential and replaced the old fluid with Genuine BMW differential oil. 🛢️

The customer will also be returning to us soon for a rear differential and transfer case service to keep the drivetrain maintained properly. 🔧

Even better for the customer — this repair was fully covered under their warranty. 💥

The customer realised after buying the car that it didn’t have cruise control, so we sourced and upgraded the steering wheel to a version with the correct cruise control buttons.

We then fitted the upgraded steering wheel, carried out the coding, and activated cruise control so the car now works exactly as it should from factory 👌

Performance cars still need proper maintenance, especially when running increased power 🔥

BMW MAIN DEALER COULDN’T EVEN FIX THIS BMW M4… SO IT ENDED UP WITH US ⚠️👀

The customer was experiencing multiple communication faults across the vehicle, and after initial diagnosis we identified disturbance on the CAN bus system — the main data communication network of the car.

Straight away we advised that anything aftermarket needed to be removed before proper diagnosis could continue, as we were unable to communicate with the airbag module or the KAFAS module.

When we contacted Autowatch, they had no trace of this vehicle ever having a Ghost fitted, meaning we were completely unable to determine the location of the system and had to manually trace the wiring through the vehicle.

After stripping the full interior and tracing wiring through the loom, we discovered the culprit… an unregistered Ghost immobiliser that had not only been poorly fitted, but also incorrectly coded by another garage 🤦‍♂️

The Ghost had been wired into the incorrect wiring loom and was causing major communication issues throughout the vehicle.

Whilst stripping the car down we also discovered THREE trackers fitted to the car that the customer didn’t even know about 😳

✔️ Removed all aftermarket trackers
✔️ Removed faulty Ghost immobiliser
✔️ Restored CAN communication
✔️ Diagnosed corrupted airbag module data
✔️ Replaced and coded new airbag module
✔️ Cleared all faults successfully

Once everything was repaired properly, the customer opted for a professional security solution and we installed a Metatrak S5 Deadlock immobiliser & tracker system 🔐

To finish the car off, we also carried out some coding upgrades for the customer 👌

✔️ Full Screen Apple CarPlay
✔️ Acoustic lock/unlock confirmation
✔️ Start/Stop coded off

Another car properly diagnosed, repaired and finished off the right way 💪

This is exactly why proper diagnosis is everything. Poorly installed security systems can create huge problems later down the line.

The S65 V8 is one of BMW’s greatest engines ever built… but rod bearings are a well-known weak point, especially as mileage and spirited driving take their toll 👀
