🚗 A strange noise while driving? It’s always worth getting it checked.

This customer had recently had their brakes replaced. Afterwards, a strange noise developed, and they didn’t feel safe continuing to drive.

Luckily, they popped in so we could take a look. We found that the front brake caliper hadn’t been tightened correctly, and the bolts had come loose.

If something doesn’t feel or sound right, stop somewhere safe and get it checked. Don’t ignore unusual noises from your brakes. 🔧

Here’s one for you all… spot the difference in these pictures! 👀

One has a brake pad. The other doesn’t. Just look at the damage that’s caused to the braking system.

This vehicle only popped in for us to have a quick look at a noise — and this is what we found. The missing pad meant the brake caliper was making contact with the disc.

If your brakes are making an unusual noise, don’t ignore it. Get them checked before the damage gets worse.

🔧 WHAT PEOPLE DON’T SEE WHEN A “SIMPLE JOB” TAKES LONGER THAN EXPECTED…

Sometimes a straightforward repair quickly turns into something much more involved! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Today’s examples:

🔩 A brake caliper replacement — the slider bolts were completely seized and needed carefully heating to release them.

🛞 Two rear tyres — normally a routine job, until we discovered someone had previously cross-threaded the wheel bolts into the hub. 🙄

That meant replacing the rear wheel bearing and damaged wheel bolt before we could safely fit the new tyres.

We know it can be frustrating when a job takes longer than expected, but problems like these only become visible once we start dismantling the vehicle. We’ll always explain what we’ve found, show you where possible and agree any additional work before continuing.

⚠️ DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOUR MOT EXPIRES?

Here’s an important reminder for all motorists: before using your vehicle on the road, make sure it has a valid MOT.

An MOT checks that your vehicle meets the required road-safety and environmental standards. Driving without a valid MOT could result in prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.

🔎 Our advice:

✅ Check your MOT expiry date regularly
✅ Book your MOT before it expires
✅ Check your previous MOT history for advisories
✅ Never assume you’re covered—check before driving

You can have your MOT carried out up to one month minus one day before it expires and still keep the same annual renewal date.

INTERMITTENT NON-START? TIME TO INVESTIGATE!

This Vauxhall Mokka came into KCR today with an intermittent non-start and hard-starting problem.

Our diagnostic checks traced the fault back to the exhaust camshaft position sensor—and once we removed it, the cause became clear. The sensor was completely covered in carbon deposits!

The sensor monitors the position of the camshaft and sends that information to the engine control unit. With this much contamination affecting the signal, the engine couldn’t always determine the correct timing information needed to start properly.

🔧 Fault diagnosed
✅ Exhaust camshaft sensor replaced
🧼 Carbon deposits cleaned from the sensor area
🔩 Everything refitted and fully tested

The result?

🚗 She now fires up on the first turn of the key—every time!

It’s another reminder that replacing random parts isn’t the answer. Proper diagnostics help us find the actual cause of the problem and repair it correctly.

This Vauxhall Corsa E failed its MOT due to a badly corroded front subframe.

Unfortunately, subframe corrosion is becoming a fairly common issue on later Corsa E models, particularly those manufactured around 2015–2018.

The subframe plays a vital role in supporting the engine, steering and front suspension—so severe corrosion isn’t something that should be ignored.
