You show up for your driving test… but forget about THIS 😳

Before you even start driving, the examiner checks your ID.
Licence out, quick check, maybe asks you to take off your sunglasses 👀

Then they say:
Can you read that number plate over there?

🚗 It’s about 20 metres away.

You try… 👀 squinting a bit…
“Uhh… is that… B…P…?”

❌ Not quite.

No worries you get one more chance.
They measure the exact distance, new number plate.

Now the pressure’s on 😬

You try again…

❌ Still can’t read it?

🚫 That’s it. Test over before it even starts.
It’s marked as a fail.

They’ll tell you to visit a GP or optician…
because legally, you’re not allowed to drive if you can’t meet the eyesight standard.

😳 Imagine waiting weeks for your test and it ends in 2 minutes.

✅ Don’t risk it check your eyes before test day!

We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

Rule 226 of the Highway Code says you must use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). 🔦

You may also use front or rear fog lights but you must switch them off when visibility improves. 🌫️
