Speed limits aren’t targets — they’re the maximum speed allowed in ideal conditions.

The Highway Code reminds drivers in Rule 125 to always drive at a speed that allows you to stop safely within the distance you can see to be clear. 🌧️❄️🌙

A few key speed limit reminders from the Highway Code:
🏙️ Built-up areas with street lights: 30mph (Rule 81)
🛣️ Single carriageways: 60mph (Rule 82)
🚘 Dual carriageways & motorways: 70mph (Rules 83 & 84)

Remember:
✔️ Wet roads = longer stopping distances
✔️ Poor visibility = reduce speed
✔️ Every road user deserves safe space

Did you know… in the UK, nobody actually has an automatic “right of way”? 👀

The Highway Code tells road users when they should give way, but you should never assume another road user will do what they’re supposed to do.

Here are a few examples:

➡️ Mini roundabouts: Give priority to traffic approaching from the right, unless signs, road markings or traffic lights tell you otherwise. (Highway Code Rules 185 & 188)

➡️ Pedestrians at junctions: If you’re turning into or out of a road, you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross. (Highway Code Rule H2)

➡️ Narrow roads and obstructions: Be prepared to give way if an oncoming vehicle is already committed to passing an obstruction or is closer to it than you are. (Highway Code Rule 163)

➡️ Emergency vehicles: Stay calm, don’t panic, and only give way when it is safe and legal to do so. (Highway Code Rule 219)

💡 Remember: Good drivers don’t just know the rules—they anticipate what others might do and plan ahead.

🏍️ More Bikes on the Road = More Reason to Look Twice 🏍️

With the warmer weather here, we’re seeing more motorcyclists out enjoying the roads.

As a driver, a few extra seconds of awareness can make all the difference:

👀 Check mirrors and blind spots carefully before changing lanes or turning.
🚗 Leave plenty of space when following or overtaking.
⚠️ Take extra care at junctions – motorcycles can be closer than they appear.
🚪 Look before opening your door when parked.

Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users. Stay alert, look twice, and help keep everyone safe this summer.
