And then you take the wheel off and find THIS. 😳

Yes… those are SOCKETS WELDED TO THE WHEEL BOLTS. 💀😂

No locking wheel nut key?
No problem.

Apparently, the welder had a better idea. 🔥🤣

We’ve seen plenty of creative repairs over the years, but this one definitely deserves a place in the VAN AUTO Hall of Fame. 🏆

⚠️ Jokes aside — wheel fixings are safety-critical. Welding, overheating or modifying them like this is NOT a proper repair.

Sometimes the most expensive words in a garage are:

“Don’t worry mate… I fixed it myself.” 😂

THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS THE EASY PART… 😳

This Ice Cream Sprinter came to VAN AUTO for an engine replacement.

New engine fitted. ✅
First start successful. ✅
Engine running perfectly. ✅

We thought the hardest part was over…

We were wrong. ⚡🍦

Corroded SAM connections, damaged grounds, electrical problems and a huge LED setup waiting to be connected back together.

Sometimes fixing the engine is only half the job.

🚨 5 MERCEDES. 5 DIFFERENT PROBLEMS. ONE WORKSHOP.

Just another busy day at VAN AUTO LTD. 🔧

Today’s jobs included:

🔧 Mercedes Sprinter 315 OM646
Metal contamination inside the engine + failed turbo.
➡️ Engine replacement in progress, including turbo, full service and DPF clean.

🔧 Mercedes Sprinter
ABS fault — both front wheel speed sensors had already been replaced…
but with the wrong specification sensors.
➡️ Proper diagnosis found the real problem.

🔧 Mercedes CLA 200d
Front right brake caliper fault.
➡️ Caliper removed for inspection and repair.

🔧 Mercedes Sprinter 311 CDI
Customer lost the gears because the gear linkage kept coming out of its mounting.
➡️ Linkage repaired/replaced and all gears restored. ✅

🔧 Mercedes Sprinter
Coolant leak traced underneath the EGR area.
➡️ Split coolant hose found and replaced. ✅

Different vehicles.
Different symptoms.
Different faults.

But the same rule applies every time:

Guess The Fault. REVEAL TIME — EP 20

Hundreds of people guessed:

❌ Rod knock
❌ Hydraulic lifters
❌ Vacuum pump
❌ Oil pressure
❌ Crankshaft pulley
❌ Injector knock

Some of those would have been perfectly reasonable guesses…

But they were all wrong. 😏

The engine was running perfectly.

The “knocking” sound?

😂 It wasn’t coming from the engine at all.

Our mechanic was tapping the front panel with a spanner just out of shot while the engine was idling.

We wanted to prove one thing…

Never diagnose an engine by sound alone.

This Mercedes had just received:

✅ New timing chain
✅ New inlet manifold
✅ New turbo
✅ New clutch & flywheel

The first start was a success. 💪

🚨 GUESS THE FAULT — EP 20

This Mercedes came in for major mechanical work.

The engine was removed and the following parts were replaced:

✅ Timing chain kit
✅ Inlet manifold
✅ Turbocharger
✅ Clutch kit
✅ Dual-mass flywheel

Everything was fitted back together.

Fluids checked.
Connections checked.
Ready for the first start…

The engine starts — and then we hear a worrying knocking sound. 😳

After all that work, this is the last sound any mechanic wants to hear.

🚨 THIS SPRINTER WAS ONE BUMP AWAY FROM DISASTER… 😳

What started as a routine inspection quickly turned into something much more serious…

❌ The upper ball joint had completely failed.
❌ The brake pipe had burst, leaking brake fluid.
