GOV CONFIRMS 3.5% PAY AWARD FOR POLICE

The Government has confirmed that police officers in England and Wales will receive a 3.5 per cent pay award.

The award falls below the recommendation made by the independent Police Remuneration Review Body (3.9 per cent increase), prompting criticism from the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), which says the decision fails to properly recognise the sacrifices officers make every day.

The Federation argues that, once inflation and other financial pressures are taken into account, the increase will do little to improve officers' real-term earnings.

🔥 FED HIGHLIGHTS BENEFITS OF WELLBEING OUTDOOR PROGRAMME

A Hertfordshire Police outdoor wellbeing initiative is receiving glowing feedback from those who have taken part – including members of the Federation branch team.

The Wellbeing Outdoor Programme aims to use the power of nature to boost officer and staff health and wellbeing.

The initiative, run by the Force Wellbeing Team, provides an opportunity to spend time in nature away from screens, phones and workplace demands.

Set within peaceful countryside surroundings, people can take part in activities such as guided walks, breathwork, outdoor games and campfire discussions, or simply enjoy the environment at their own pace.

Federation representative James Stopford attended a recent session with colleagues and said his experience highlighted to him the value of the programme for individuals and teams.

He said: “We refer our members and our teams there, so it was nice to go along as a Federation team and see the space they have.

"It gave us a chance to see exactly what the programme offers and understand why it can be so effective.

There is absolutely no pressure to take part in anything you don't want to do. You can join in with activities, go for a walk or just enjoy the space. It's about getting out of it what you personally need."

📆 MATT HITS 30-YEAR MARK...BUT HE'S NOT DONE YET!

While he may have already given 30 years of dedication to Hertfordshire Constabulary, Federation member Matt Deveney believes he has plenty more to offer the Force as he moves into a new chapter of his policing career.

A popular and experienced officer, Matt celebrated reaching three decades in the profession at the beginning of June to the admiration of colleagues across the board.

Leading this recognition was Chief Constable Andy Prophet, who presented the 51-year-old with a certificate of service shortly after the arrival of his work anniversary.

Just a few months earlier, Matt had been preparing for the milestone to mark his retirement from the Force and seal a permanent goodbye to his long-time employers – before a surprise opportunity entered his considerations....

⚽ WORLD CUP - FED REP SHARES SAFER GAMBLING ADVICE

Hertfordshire Police Federation representative James Stopford is encouraging members to be mindful of their gambling habits during the World Cup.

James has posted a series of tips to help colleagues stay in control of their betting during one of the major sporting events.

In a social media post, James highlighted how major sporting events can lead to increased gambling activity and encouraged people to take simple steps to stay in control.

He posted: “Bookmakers are all going to be fighting for your business and it'll be a significantly busy, and profitable, time for them all.

“Here are three tips ahead of this year's tournament....."

✅ Set a deposit limit. Through Safer Gambling initiatives, all bookmakers should offer deposit limits. These can be set to be daily/weekly/monthly or yearly and when turned on will be restricted behind a time limit before being turned back off.

✅ Opt out of marketing. Again, bookmakers should offer an option to turn off emails, texts and/or push notifications. With multiple games a day every bookmaker will be trying to reach customers by offering increased prices. If this constant approach is going to be too much, turn them off.

✅ Think of something you can buy with the money saved from not gambling.

🕯️ IN MEMORY

Hertfordshire Police Federation today remembers a teenage police officer who died on his way to report for duty, on the anniversary of his death.

PC Peter Eykelbosch was just 19 when he died after his motorcycle was in collision with a lorry near St Albans on 9 June 1980.

Branch chair Luke Mitchell said: “Peter left home to report for duty that day and, like too many officers before him and since, did not return home to his loved ones.

“The fact that Peter was so young when he lost his life makes his death even more tragic.

“Today we pay tribute to Peter and the thoughts of Hertfordshire Police Federation are with his family, friends, and colleagues. We will never forget him.”
