NEWS!

Stephane and his family have been offered the opportunity of a lifetime. As such, they will soon be moving to Canada.

After much soul-searching, Nathan has chosen to use this opportunity to spend more time with his family. AEB Motors has always been a partnership venture and it didn't feel right to carry on the business alone or with a new partner.

Nathan will continue to provide the same care for our customers and their cars but instead of being at AEB, he will be at Station Garage in Uffculme.

Station Garage operate on the same business ethos as AEB - honest and friendly - and have an equally quality reputation for their skill, work and customer service.

We would like to thank all of our customers for your support over the past 5 years - we couldn't have made our business so successful without you. We hope you will continue to trust your car's care with Nathan as he moves to Uffculme.

You can still contact us on 07737 457177 for bookings and queries.

With thanks

Nathan and Stephane

MOT rule changes from 20 May 2018

Some new items will be tested during the MOT. These include checking:
• if tyres are obviously underinflated
• if the brake fluid has been contaminated
• for fluid leaks posing an environmental risk
• brake pad warning lights and if brake pads or discs are missing
• reversing lights on vehicles first used from 1 September 2009
• headlight washers on vehicles first used from 1 September 2009 (if they have them)
• daytime running lights on vehicles first used from 1 March 2018 (most of these vehicles will have their first MOT in 2021 when they’re 3 years old)

MOT rule changes from 20 May 2018

There will be stricter limits for emissions from diesel cars with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). A DPF captures and stores exhaust soot to reduce emissions from diesel cars. Check your car’s handbook if you don’t know whether your car has a DPF.

Your vehicle will get a major fault if the MOT tester:
• can see smoke of any colour coming from the exhaust
• finds evidence that the DPF has been tampered with

From Sunday 20 May 2018, the MOT will change.

There will be 3 new defect categories: dangerous, major and minor. A dangerous or major fault will result in an MOT fail. The category given to each item will depend on the type of problem and how serious it is. We will still give advice about items you need to monitor. These are known as ‘advisories’.

For more info about the new categories or the other MOT changes, please see: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mot-changes-20-may-2018

Autumn and winter can really take its toll on car batteries. The low temperatures increase electrical resistance and thicken engine oil, making the battery work harder. Here are some top tips to keep your car starting right on those colder mornings:

1) Keep the top of the battery clean and dry.

2) Make sure the terminals are tight and free from corrosion as any corrosion on the battery terminals increases resistance and might just be the last straw that makes the battery give up. Before winter starts, disconnect the terminals and clean them with a wire brush. Reconnect, then smear with petroleum jelly (this will help prevent corrosion).

3) Batteries tend to have a three to five year life span. If your battery is more than three years old, it might need replacing.

4) Any concerns, book in a quick check with us!
