Cooler was good but it all got a bit hot on the canal.

A huge fire at Springwell caused horrific damage and disruption to many people the whole week.

But today the canal is clear of debris and open again.

Many boats were lost to the fire and also canal wildlife but thankfully no persons were injured.

The yard was therefore quiet due to lack of access if coming from London, but we kept everyone informed as best we could, rescheduled bookings where we could and we now have a very busy week coming up.

When these closures happen it causes a wide ripple effect. Transport, HIAB, boatmovers brokers it can be a very expensive problem.

Many of you know the difficulties in joining up all the moving parts when moving a boat, add a fire on the canal and you can see the impact.

Needless to say we hope next week is rather less dramatic ๐Ÿคž

Heads up I am on holiday from 1st September so get in touch next week if thereโ€™s anything urgent ๐Ÿ˜Š

Due to a boating incident below Bridge 176, Springwell Lane, there is now a Navigation Closure between lock 83, Springwell Lock and Bridge 176C , until further notice. This will be reviewed tomorrow. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

By the mid-19th century, railways began to surpass canals in speed and flexibility, leading to the decline of canal transport.

Many canals fell into disrepair due to high maintenance costs and reduced usage.

In the mid-20th century, there was renewed interest in canals for recreational use.

Many disused canals have been restored for boating, fishing, and walking.

Canal boats have been converted into houseboats or floating businesses.

Today boats are increasing on the cut, with the cost of housing on land being increasingly unaffordable.

Always make sure you do your homework before you purchase a boat. Get a pre-purchase survey and then really think about the cost of any repair.

Regular expert maintenance is the key to a long enjoyable life aboard your boat.

Lots going on, not all good news for customers but all sorted so canal worthy again.

Hot weather subsided a little this week, but itโ€™s about to heat up again this weekend.

Low water in areas has made travel to us difficult or impossible for some, so we have a few spaces after rescheduling boats due in next week.

Space for surveys mid to end of week as well as transport lifts.

Tight on staff and 2 days helping The Rothen Group load and The Rothen Groupept going.

A little warm at times but of course the rain and cold will no doubt come too soon still.

We sail into a busy August but can still squeeze in a couple of narrowboats if needed.

September currently has good availability most of the month.
