£183k ‘Unstealable’ Range Rover Stolen Days After Purchase: Furious Owner Calls Out JLR
A £183,000 Range Rover SV, advertised as “unstealable,” was stolen from its owner’s Leamington Spa driveway just two days after purchase, sparking outrage and a scathing complaint to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
The owner, John, described the theft as a “catastrophic failure” of JLR’s state-of-the-art security systems.
Using advanced techniques, thieves bypassed the vehicle’s keyless entry system in minutes, leaving John questioning the credibility of JLR’s claims about its anti-theft measures.
John penned a letter of complaint to JLR CEO Adrian Mardell on January 1, writing:
“The theft of my vehicle demonstrates a catastrophic failure of the security systems advertised as state-of-the-art. These features, heavily promoted by JLR, failed to prevent theft, even though JLR asserts publicly that: ‘JLR’s investment includes updates to the Body Control Module (BCM) which prevents thieves driving away a vehicle without a key.”
In response, JLR’s Client Relationship Centre replied on January 6, stating:
“As a responsible manufacturer, we have implemented theft mitigation schemes to help reduce this risk; however, these measures cannot solely be relied upon. Vehicle theft is a risk that all vehicle owners face, and we would not consider reviewing any claims of responsibility.”
The response further advised John to seek resolution through an alternative dispute service, such as The Motor Ombudsman, if he remained dissatisfied.
John expressed frustration over the lack of accountability, highlighting that despite JLR’s high-profile marketing of their security features, they failed to prevent the theft.
Local police are investigating, but the vehicle has yet to be recovered.
