People tend to do all the cheap stuff on a reliant such as the thermostat and refuse to buy a new radiator

When your radiator is 30 years old it's more than likely blocked inside, this one is rotten and full of rust

With modern fuel, even E5 I've found alot of the small fuel filters split apart at the seam

So I started fitting these, they are very well made, have the ability to drain off any sediment in the bottom and you can unscrew the whole lot and clean it out

I've warned about these cheap Chinese 45d copy distributors for years

people generally fit them because they come with electronic ignition fitted and are seen as the easy option

they basically fall part internally and then cut the body in half

I've replaced several that have done this over the years

You often get people say the later reliant engines aren't very good

They never say when or why

after 1992 the new owners (after going bust) cut corners by using parts supplied from India

At first they just used certain spares to build new engines in house, later post 1994 they got so desperate to use complete engines imported from India - which were truly awful

here is a example of the quality of these Indian castings

Most mistakes you've ever seen on a reliant engine

This engine was seized solid but it wasn't the engine as it turns out

someone hadn't tightened the flywheel bolts which jammed the flywheel/clutch in the bell housing

they'd also not fitted two of the rear backplate bolts and messed up the fitting of a rear crankshaft seal

Another car that's a fire risk

this carb had a groove worn into it from a heater cable, it had a pin hole that would drip fuel

even scarier since the car had no drip tray fitted and no fuel overflow outlet - a bit of black tape on the fuel jet pipe too
